I'm off to a wedding and have the most hideous legs - White, blemished, sausage like just not attractive at all and so am going to wear tights. I don't have time etc for fake tan. What's less hideous black opaque tights or neutral? My dress is navy and show wise I can do either black or navy...
I'm worried black ones accentuate the size of my legs but heard they should elongate them if worn with black shoes?
Please help!

I'd do navy shoes with neutral tights.

Goingtobeawesome · 31/12/2015 15:40

put one of each on then look in the mirror to see which looks better

Sallyhasleftthebuilding · 31/12/2015 15:44

Navy and black dont go.
Navy dress tights and shoes will look too much. Go nutral with navy shoes.

FadedRed · 31/12/2015 15:46

What about sheer navy or grey tights?

I would go with grey, but yes try them on and see which looks better.

Navy and black can be fine. Try them on and see.

amitha · 31/12/2015 16:01

Agree to try navy and black, can be pretty chic so see if it works.

MyNameIsSuz · 31/12/2015 16:24

I'd definitely do black, make sure they're really solid though - 200 denier if you can.

Sallyhasleftthebuilding · 31/12/2015 17:33

Black tights with navy dress either looks like you got dressed in the dark - or they are an after thought to the outfit.
Both make me cringe.
It screams old woman!! Sorry pet hate.

Thank goodness sally the voice of reason.

Navy and black just looks like you can't see the difference, or else don't care. To be avoided for a wedding certainly.

IWannaHoldYourHand · 01/01/2016 12:11

I like navy and black, it is way less old lady than skin coloured tights.

Jackie0 · 02/01/2016 21:53

Hasn't Kate brought natural tights back in vogue?
I'm only half joking .
A wedding is too formal an occasion for thick black tights.
I think its fresh and youthful.

TheCraicDealer · 02/01/2016 22:01

I loooove nude tights, it's too cold to go bare legged here most of the time but equally I don't like looking like I have the legs of a mannequin. After much research I have narrowed my favourites down to these from John Lewis and Pretty Polly Naturals. I think the latter in Barely There would be the best option if you're not planning on tanning, and at a fiver a pop they're not going to break the bank if you don't fancy nude after all.

leb33 · 03/01/2016 11:17

You could do a Kate Middleton and wear nude tights with nude shoes, this will elongate the leg and won't upset the colours in your outfit. I have a gorgeous court from M&S, slight platform (although they do them without also and in two widths) and a manageable heel, they are comfy too. You'd wear them again too.

Nude tights, definitely. Thick black ones would be v frumpy IMO.

Borninthe60s · 03/01/2016 13:20

Just had same dilemma. I had navy suit. Bought m and s suntan coloured and they were perfect as the natural ones were too pale and opaque just felt too business like. I wore fancy shoes from ruby shoes.

FAQs

Is it okay to wear tights to a wedding? ›

Higher-denier tights (around 40-80) are perfect for formal weddings, offering a polished and elegant look. For more casual affairs, opt for lower-denier sheer tights (around 10-30) for a lighter and breathable feel. Remember, the right denier can make all the difference in achieving the perfect wedding outfit.

What is the rule for tights? ›

“The first rule of wearing tights is that there are no rules,” Kosich said. Because tights have such a wide range in color, textures and patterns, it's OK to push the limits,” she said. But there is some helpful guidance you can follow. One tip is to choose tights that balance out the color palette of your outfit.

Can you go bare legged to a wedding? ›

I have advised readers that while bare legs are fine even at the most formal events, hosiery also is perfectly acceptable as long as it's skin tone and sheer. I've just returned from a wedding where I wore my new bargain ($10!) black sequined mini and consignment store jeweled black shoes (also $10).

What to wear on legs to a wedding? ›

I think if it's an afternoon wedding or outdoors, black opaque tights can be totally fine if it's the right dress of course because that's a more dressy casual time frame. Pair it with a closed toe shoe that's black as well to continue that vertical visual line as well so you don't look choppy.

Is it inappropriate to wear leggings to a wedding? ›

In today's fashion landscape, comfort is just as important as style. Leggings beneath a dress for a wedding offer both, making it an entirely appropriate choice.
