A Checklist to help you spot a fake Louis Vuitton Wallet
Locate and Authenticate the Stamp
One key way to determine if a Louis Vuitton wallet is real or a replica is to check the stamp. All genuine Louis Vuitton items should have a “made in” stamp that says Louis Vuitton Paris and “made in France” beneath it (or another location if it was made elsewhere). If there is no stamp, that is a big indication that it is likely fake. If there is a stamp, be sure to check the style of the font. The letter L should have a short leg at the bottom and the letter O should be a large circle that is wider than the L. The top of the Ts should be close together so that they are nearly touching. Be sure to examine the clarity of the lettering. Authentic stamps should appear crisp and thin. The depth of the lettering in the stamp should be even and consistent, if some lines appear deeper than others, this can also indicate that it may be fake.
Check the Hardware
The zipper pulls on a genuine Louis Vuitton wallet should be gold in color with a soft matte finish. A replica may have hardware that is more shiny and reflective than the real hardware, which can be a good indicator of authenticity. The pulls should also have a clear Louis Vuitton logo in the center. The zipper should also glide easily and not get snagged, there should be no need to use force to get the zipper to move. If the zipper feels difficult to slide, this is also a good sign that it may be fake.
If the wallet features a snap closure, the button should be circular, flat, and engraved with “Louis Vuitton”.
Examine the Stitching
All Louis Vuitton items are hand stitched and the thread is coated in a resin to protect the quality and durability of the stitching. This gives it a very distinct mustard yellow color, and each stitch should have a slight slant due to being done by hand. If the thread is a very vibrant yellow or orange and the stitching looks like a perfectly straight line, this is usually a sign that it was stitched using a machine.
Pattern and Leather Quality
If the item has the classic Louis Vuitton Monogram pattern it should include the interlocking L and V logo, as well as the diamonds, circle and flower icons. The authentic Louis Vuitton items are made from one continuous piece of leather, which means the pattern should be perfectly symmetrical from front to back. If you see a piece of one of the icons in the pattern cut off, this is usually an indication of a counterfeit item.
Overall Look and Feel
Obviously a true Louis Vuitton wallet should be high quality, and look and feel luxurious. Sometimes it may be easy to spot a fake just by looking at the wallet and noticing if the quality feels cheap.
