Genji is a heavily played hero in Overwatch because of his unique kit and his high skill ceiling, meaning that even Genji pros will have room to improve.
However, there is still a lot of middle ground for players to make the most of this hero, and picking him on the right map is half of the battle. While Genji mains will pick him anywhere, it is important to know what strengths he has on the different maps he will play in.
So, to better help players find them, here are the top 3 maps in Overwatch for Genji.
What makes a good map for Genji?
Genji is a rather interesting hero in the maps that he wants to play.
Some would think that he would want an area with walls and corridors so he can make the most of his dashes and close combat fighting style. While that may be partially true, that isn’t the whole of it all.
Genji certainly wants those corridors and walls so that he can use his abilities to his advantage, but there are some hidden techniques he can adopt on maps with lots of obstacles.
By using his Cyber-Agility, Genji can easily traverse maps with large barriers so that he can scout ahead of his team, avoid enemy camp points, or set up a flank for a game-winning fight.
Because of that, players may think that he is weakest in maps with lots of choke points, where he could easily get punished when being away from his team, but that is not entirely true.
With Genji’s high mobility, he can actually dash through choke points or climb walls to avoid them completely. This means that even if there is a Bastion camping an entry point, Genji can avoid that point, or the raining bullets, entirely.

Anubis
Anubis is the perfect map for Genji in many ways in Overwatch. In the early stages of the map, there are enough corridors for him to dash through enemy fire and get onto the enemy backline.
This will allow his team to rush from the front and clean up what Genji started. Then, in the later stages of the map, there are plenty of side routes and obstacles that he can climb over and sneak through to make a pick on an oppressive enemy.
Once the enemy is clear, the checkpoint is Genji’s for the taking.
Hanamura
Hanamura is a bit more difficult, but nothing a skilled Genji player cannot handle.
The first initial checkpoint will require some experience with the hero. But, as long as the player knows that they need to take out the most troublesome opponent, then wait for help from their team, they should be in the clear.
With the enemy powerhouse down, Genji’s team can provide support and take the first objective. In the second part of the map, Genji can easily use the trenches and walkways to avoid a fatal enemy attack and then respond with lethal force after he sneaks behind the enemy defenses.
Volskaya Industries
While Volskaya may be a top map for Genji, the first half of it will prove difficult.
With the wide-open spaces, Genji can certainly use his dashes to avoid being killed, but if he cannot find cover before then, then it will be a difficult first point for him.
However, the second half of the map is where he will truly shine. With all of the moving parts, high walls, and doorways, Genji can easily juke out opponents and attack when they least expect it.
In this part of the map, he can easily run away with the game. So as long as he has support from his team for the first half of the map, the second will be a piece of cake.
While it is ideal for players looking to main Genji to take him on any map, it is still good to know where his strengths and weaknesses lay.
By taking him anywhere, players will eventually learn where they need the most improvement, and from there can hone their skills to the point where they can dominate any map.
But even after that happens, being able to determine a map where Genji can dominate will leave those trying to master him in a great place and can completely turn the game on its head.
