Buyer Beware!!!. When it comes to large insurance companies the only thing we have is a platform and a voice. I am very upset so here you go. Nationwide Pet Insurance (who is not on your side) has been taking my premiums for the last three years for my little dog GIGI. We were told we had the very best insurance, low deductible, and max coverage. GIGI was rushed to Davis University and had to have 2 discs in her back removed. This cost us $12,500. One day later we sent her to VEG. She had to have throat surgery as she could not breathe, the doctors said she would die if we did not do the surgery, which cost us over $18,000.

We love this little girl and would have done it with or without the insurance. Nationwide (who was not on my side) would only accept the claim online. I spent 4 days trying to make sure it was correct. I admit I am not the brightest bulb when it comes to this. After all was said and done they denied 80% of the claim. Reasons for the denial included not filing the claim correctly. To be fair this was my first filing a pet claim online. I was then told it was congenital, so what they are saying is she must have had this at birth. When we purchased the policy they sent her to the vet for inspection and she passed.

This is nothing more than a large company trying to limit their liability. I will tell you this is no longer about the money. I now have a new mission, to let everybody know. We are spending our hard-earned money to protect our pets and ability to save their lives. Now that we have a very upset Kevin I am looking forward to my new mission, Every chance I get I will let everybody know! "Nationwide" They are not on your side!!

I purchased the major medical plan with wellness rider for our two kittens when we brought them home. Last weekend, our male started vomiting on Friday evening. We took him to an emergency vet; the bill was over $1400 for blood work, X-rays and meds. They suspected that a kidney stone was lodged in his urethra and transferred us to another hospital where we were told they could do the procedure (a stent). The second hospital charged us over $4800 for his care (meds, x-rays, blood work, etc.). By Sunday morning he was in kidney failure. There was no agent to talk to on Sunday to determine what would be covered. I was provided a booklet when the policy renewed, but the prices didn't seem realistic to me when comparing with what the vets were actually charging. I didn't see his procedure in the booklet at all. A kidney transplant was listed (they pay $2,500 in my state and that procedure costs $25,000 or more).

My cat wasn't even 4 years old and I was told that the stent would cost $15,000-$20,000. The prices in the booklet are NOT realistic as I now know, but who calls an emergency vet hospital ahead of time to find out what these procedures cost? As I said, there was no one to talk to about what would be covered by Nationwide because it was a Sunday and they're closed. The reason I paid for insurance is for peace of mind. I didn't want money to be a factor in my pet's care. My husband (who is disabled) and I are devastated. We spent over $6,000 last weekend and we opted to put him to sleep because the vet couldn't tell us if he would have a decent quality of life even if we chose to do the stent procedure.

I received the reimbursem*nt notification from Nationwide yesterday. Of the more than $6,000 that we spent last weekend, they reimbursed us $1700. As soon as the checks clear I'm canceling their insurance and going with another company, and I would advise anyone else to do the same. It's horrible that they took $70/month from us since they were 13 weeks old, it's disgusting that they reimbursed us so little, but worst of all is that there was no one available to discuss coverage that horrible day. If we had known how much they would have paid, maybe we could have done the procedure. Someone should be available 24/7 because animals don't just get sick during the week. Nationwide is on your side? I don't think so.

We signed up for two Pet insurance policies for our two young and healthy cats - with no pre-existing conditions. Roughly 5 months later, we took them in for a routine annual physical exam that would fall under their covered "wellness" category of the policy. The claims were denied under the grounds that wellness was not offered when we signed up - but it was 6 days after we signed up. Their website clearly stated that wellness benefits were provided in the policies that we enrolled in. They would not budge, and the best part is that the exam costs would not have filled up their deductibles for the year.

It's blatant deceptive practice - and after reviewing their disclosures that were mailed between enrollment and the policy being in place, it has a vague and non detailed section about how certain provisions/coverages may not be included in the plan depending on when we enrolled. Bait and switch - they pulled the wool over our eyes. Never again to Nationwide. Stay far away!

I just cancelled my Nationwide pet insurance today, I was paying $49 - $56 a month for premium plan for my cat for the last 4 years, they increased my premium to $143 a month WITHOUT even informing, they kept charging my credit card on file. When I called them they said they could not refund me because it was set to "auto payments". They did not get my consent to charge me $143 a MONTH for a CAT, and their customer service was not helpful and could care less. My cat is healthy, rarely goes to the vet and past claims I've submitted have gotten rejected because it was "preventative". Ridiculous, I will be switching to a different company, Nationwide is a scam. I will make sure I inform my friends and family to not use this company for anything. Nationwide is NOT on your side.

8 yrs ago enrolled a 9 week old co*ckapoo, full coverage 54.00 per month. 2024 jumped to 247.00 a month. They have been great to work with. However, most expensive in the industry. At some point when the dog is older, it may be unaffordable, when you need it most.

All but one claim submitted was refused. Had to submit more paperwork, often multiple times for most claims. Despite being "online and easy", having to go back to your vet EVERY TIME for additional paperwork and then getting rejected again makes this insurance laughable. DO NOT GET IT!!

I've had Nationwide Pet Insurance for my rabbits for about 5 years now. I'm not really sure why. They basically cover nothing, and my rabbits have had quite a few COMMON illnesses. Recently, my rabbit got e- coli. It cost me $600 in vet bills. I got absolutely nothing back because they do not cover treatment for parasites, or anything related to it. GI Stasis? They'll cover about $100, but only things directly related to it. Bunny has a clog? No, it's GI Stasis. $100, enjoy paying the other $500. Get it if you want like a 10% discount on vet bills that you can then use to pay back the insurance you're paying each month. They know what they're doing with the exceptions list, making sure you don't actually get covered.

Nationwide Pet Insurance premiums. We have carried pet insurance for our pet for the last eight years. Starting with an affordable premium cost for a premium reimbursem*nt, emergency care and preventive healthcare pet insurance on our dog. When we first started looking for pet insurance for our pet, we did a long investigation on what is the best coverage for the price. We found that nationwide was a bait and switch in the end. We noticed our premiums were continuing to increase rapidly for insurance, we hardly ever use or used. We have always been on automatic payment, billing, for convenience.

We recently realized over these last three months during the holiday season. We had high credit card bill on a credit card we hardly use or used. We did not question it because of the holiday season of spending until we were gathering up our credit card info to do taxes. Please do not make the same mistake that we have if you have nationwide pet insurance. In the process of reviewing our credit card statements found a huge error of premium pet insurance payments that had doubled in cost without our authorization. Upon realizing that the insurance pet premiums doubled in cost, we contacted nationwide ASAP. Upon talking to their representative informed us that they will not reimburse us for the double of the cost of the premium for the pet insurance, and also had no positive solution for the outcome of the error on their part.

We felt that it was our responsibility to carry insurance for our pet so we wouldn’t be left with the high vet bills that veterinarians unfortunately charge for emergency or preventive health care that we felt that nationwide would have it in our best interest to also reverses our overcharged premiums and come up with a positive solution, so we can continue on past the eight years of coverage of loyal Consumers. So nationwide would rule in our favor for reimbursem*nt of the error on their part for doubling the premiums. We are writing this review to exposed nationwide business practices of scamming the consumer on their pet insurance premiums.

Between my dog and cat, I’ve been paying Nationwide for about 15. I rarely and thankfully needed to use the insurance, but when I did need them, they really let me down. I needed to make a decision about a spinal surgery for my pet in the early afternoon on Christmas Eve. I understand that working on Christmas is the worst, but we’re talking about operators that can take calls from home, and surely don’t all celebrate Christmas and might like to make a little holiday pay. Nationwide thought it would be a good idea to close from the 24-26th. Like a pet can’t get sick during the holidays. They closed shop. When I really needed them. People are weighing big time health decisions for their pet against massive sums of money. Understanding what's covered by reading the policy was tricky and the stakes were high. Thanks for nothing Nationwide. What waste of money.

Terrible place to get pet insurance. I started it in Sept 2023 and never had to submit a claim until Dec 2023 when my dogs went for vaccinations and possible ear infection. I try to do all at once because it's terrible to submit a claim. Now they want a year's worth of medical records for both dogs to try and get out of paying my reimbursem*nt. Instead of 6 to 8 days reimbursem*nt I am told it take 30 days to look at the medical records my vet submitted yesterday 12/21/23. Ridiculous and this insurance was cheaper but through my state employment. Never again. Terrible service and spend a fortune and they don't want to pay you.
