God, when a person offends me, help me to remember this is a sick person. Help me show the same tolerance, pity, and patience that we would cheerfully grant a sick friend. Show me how can I help them. Save me from being angry.

Father, I also ask for forgiveness for any anger that I have held onto from the past. I release any bitterness or resentment that I may have toward others and ask for healing of any wounds that may be causing me to hold onto these negative emotions. Lord, I know that I cannot handle my anger on my own.

I am grateful not only for sobriety, but for the quality of life my sobriety has brought. God has been gracious enough to give me sober days and a life blessed with peace and contentment, as well as the ability to give and receive love, and the opportunity to serve others—in our Fellowship, my family and my community.

On p. 64 in the Big Book it says: “Resentment is the Number one offender. It destroys more alcoholics than anything else.” With that in mind, you would think that it would be the first thing on the agenda, but it was not.
