As for music, punk rock is the most popular genre among gothic teens, but many times their musical interests are broader than that, ranging from Frank Sinatra to Rob Zombie. In short, being a gothic teen does not mean that your son or daughter is evil or obsessed with death and Satan. As a matter of fact, one can have a wide range of interests and still be considered gothic.The gothic attitude is one that is more geared toward the darker side of life. In many cases, a gothic teen is trying to fit in with others who have similar beliefs and outlooks on life. Typically, gothic groups, or “cliques,” are teens who have been ostracized by the other groups in the school. They are generally unaccepted by others because they are more interested in thinking about the intricacies of life. They are generally the poets of the school and they are interested in exploring feelings and expressing themselves creatively. This often makes them open to criticism and ridicule from others. Gothic fashion is one of the more distinguishable characteristics of teens who are living this lifestyle. Black is one of the more common choices among many gothic teens. Outfits are often made up of layers of black. Black pants with a black shirt and a black jacket is a common outfit for a gothic teen. The black clothes tend to convey a mood of depression and, in many instances, a fascination with death.
