Urban Outfitters is closing all of its stores globally because of the coronavirus, the company announced Saturday.
Stores in the company's portfolio include Urban Outfitters,Anthropologie, Free People, Terrain and Nuuly brands. Stores "will not reopen until at least March 28," the company said in a news release. The company has about 600 stores.
"The global spread of COVID-19 is affecting every one of us," the company said in its statement. "The safety and health of our communities, including our loyal customers and dedicated associates, is always of the utmost importance to us."
Store employees will continue to be paid, and the company's e-commerce and subscription business will continue to operate. Corporate employees will work remotely.

"Because the situation is complex and evolving rapidly, our plans may change," the release said.
As of Jan. 31, 2020, the companyoperated 248 Urban Outfitters, 231 Anthropologie Group, and 144 Free People stores in the United States, Canada, and Europeand 11restaurants.
