Has anyone else had problems paying for purchases on Vinted please?

I have been trying to purchase 2 separate items from Vinted today.

I used the site only twice before without any issues. Probably about 6 months ago.

To complete the purchase I need to make a card payment (no other payment options and I never sold anything so no available funds to use from my Vinted account).

I tried paying using the App and the website version of the platform. Several times. Payment declined. I spoke to my bank who confirmed there is nothing wrong with my card but Vinted have not updated their anti fraud financial information with the bank with an up to date form therefore the bank cannot allow card payments through this site. It is something online sellers need to do (shops or anything that takes card payment online). Something to do with fraud, it is a standard requirement where the responsibility lies with the online platform owner. I imagine it's something done on a regular basis.

I contacted Vinted via an online form, explained everything and they said they understand but because the issue has not been flagged up at their end there is nothing they can do. I told them I am convinced many other buyers would be facing the same problem.

So that's that!
I'm not on any social media so can't try Twitter or Instagram to see if it gets them going.

I don't have cards with any other banks in case this is bank specific so can't try any other way. And I want to complete the transaction through Vinted not circumvent the system directly with the sellers.

I found, by complete chance, a really really beautiful wool dress. Gorgeous, great quality and a bargain. So not life and death situation. And I can't quite believe I've invested so much time in this today! It has become a personal battle of sorts now. 😁

But am I the only one with this problem?
Has this ever happened to anyone else and what was the resolution?

Yep, I got this the other day. Eventually had three sets of the same transaction showing in my bank account as 'pending'.

Had to ditch the transaction in the end. Bloody annoying.

Sorry to hear you had the same experience. I'm with Lloyds. I wonder if it's bank specific. Please don't name your bank if you don't feel comfortable doing so.

Since our bank started requiring 2 step verification for purchases over £200, that happens to me on any site that hasn't updated their system. It words for me to use the same card, but via PayPal.

Not Lloyds so def a wider issue.

How annoying.
Sadly Vinted doesn't have PayPal as an option only card payment.

Definitely annoying. You should let them know they've lost a sale. Same issue with net a porter, but they do offer PayPal.

Oh I did, and painted a very bad picture for them.

I didn't realise it is such a widespread issue with other online shopping sites.

Bumping an old thread rather than create a new one - I'm having the same issue. I can add my Lloyds debit card, but not my MBNA credit card which is such a pain as I'm trying to buy a ball gown and want to put it on the credit card to pay off in bits, not empty my bank account the week before payday.....

Has anyone had any joy?

Vinted have been useless - they said:
"Our payment service tells us that the reason is your bank: either it rejected your payment, or your card is not active, or there was a technical problem. To find out more, you need to contact your bank".

This is utter nonsense - it comes up with a different explanation on the screen most of the time - tehcnical issues, authentication problem etc.

Is Vinted actually a secure platform for these details? I'm beginning to get a bit sus, especially as they don't support PayPal.

Branster · 24/05/2022 20:33

Ooh ooh ooh so annoying!
I can't believe they're not getting their act together!
My Lloyds card still doesn't work on there.
I found an old post office MasterCard card - the one you top up when you send your kids away on holiday. That works fine on Vinted.
Not ideal because when you top it up you pay a fee.
Go to the post office tomorrow and get one - it's not a credit card it's a top up multi currency card. Have a look online first if you can top it up with you mbna credit card

This one

www.postoffice.co.uk/travel-money/card

Also you need to find out of mbna charges anything for topping up, it would if they treat it as a cash payment.

Oh my gosh this will be the death of me. Have purchased off the app SO MANY TIMES with multiple cards even just a couple of weeks ago, and now all of the sudden no payment methods work. Told me the same thing that they don’t know what the issue is and that it has to be the bank and to try later. Ridiculous they can’t fix anything. I am more than frustrated I’ve tried purchasing prob 15 times now thinking they meant it when they said to try again in a few hours. What do we do??

Report

Branster · 25/05/2022 21:24

I don't know 😢
But wouldn't they notice sales dropping dramatically? Then be forced to fix the issue?
Not sure if it's specific to UK banking regulations for card transactions so maybe in other countries they don't have this problem.
It's some sort of agreement online retailers have to sign with card providers for security of card transactions and maybe the platform itself has to be updated. That's my understanding.
But it's been ages and, by the sound of it, it affects a multitude of cards.

I have, for the first time tried to buy something on Vinted. Downloaded the app yesterday - tried to pay with a credit card - same message as everyone else here is getting. Thought it maybe a phone thing so tried today on my PC. Same issue! How really frustrating and exceedingly annoying - especially as you can spend ages looking for something.

I sold a dress on vinted . I mistakenly put one wrong number on my bank account. I quickly corrected it . Vinted say it was withdrawn and put into my bank . It was not and could not as it was an incorrect number .
My bank say there was and there has been no deposit fom vinted .
It is now a a month .They even had me screenshot my bank statement to show them there was no £40.
They say it must have gone another of my accounts. I only have one !
Still trying but and getting many automated answers
Wont use them again ..lost £40 on an £85 dress I wore once in june !!

I want to buy an item on Vinted. But on the 2 occasions I have before, there has been some issue, and I vowed never again. To stick to this decision I just took another quick squiz at their trustpilot. A ha ha ha. Nope. Why oh why are they so unrelentingly sh*t? They are like a scam site themselves never mind all the scammers they host and side with seemingly.

I had the same problem when trying to buy an item a few weeks ago. I waited a few days and then successfully bought the item. you could try that

I was having the same issue, both my Nationwide credit and debit card wouldn't be accepted... tried with my Mastercard and it worked first time... Don't know why, and the chat help thing is pretty useless - telling me to contact my bank as it's a bank issue... it clearly wasn't a bank issue, both of those cards had any amount of funds on them to cover a £2 transaction! Anyway, if you have a Mastercard credit card, it seems that works fine!

I posted couole of months ago . Slightly different. I sold a dress. despite screenshots of my bank statement and eventuall screenshot of a letter sent from my bank to say , no money was recieved from vinted . They ignored all . They now do not respond at all. A lady paid £40 to me and vinted kept the money .They are highly suspicious. All automated respnses . Do not trust them.

I have had the same problem ongoing for the last 2 weeks! I have continually tried 2 credit cards with no luck. Vinted don't want to know and keep saying its a bank error! It definitely is not as i have enough pending payments showing that amounts to the total cost of the item i wanted to buy!!
My last chance was to receive money from my sale of items that I could use in my balance to pay for my items. Guess what....it still won't let me use my balance without a payment card!! Unbelievable!!!! I hope I can now add my account again and withdraw my balance back to the bank? Otherwise I will never receive the money!!!

I have just encountered the same issue trying to purchase a dress after my lower offer had been accepted. I have tried every card I have even dug out my postoffice travel card from reading an earlier post but nothing is working. I've tried following them on Facebook to highlight the issue but am unable to post on their site. As mentioned in a previous thread their help chat is useless informing me they have a high demand and will get back to me in 48rs.
