I wondered if anyone can give me any advice on how to package items sold on Vinted, please?
I've just sold my first thing, and want to get it posted. I usually reuse shop parcel bags, eg from M&S or Next orders, when sending to family and friends. Will this be ok?
I don't want to make a faux pas and get bad feedback straight away! But I also don't want to spend money on buying a lot of packaging when the items are only really cheap. Thank you for any advice!

I’ve just had 3 Vinted parcels. All reused packaging all fine. I sell and reuse too or use new if I haven’t got anything to hand but I’ve got a huge stash of bags anyway.

Poly bag postal bags (reused from internet shopping) are generally fine but make sure there's enough bag for more than one layer so that if the bag gets ripped in transit, there is still a plastic layer to protect the garment. I usually find a bag that's big enough to push the garment to the bottom and then fold the excess bag over to double up.

As an expert in e-commerce practices and sustainable packaging methods, I've been deeply involved in various platforms facilitating online selling, including Vinted. I've assisted numerous sellers in optimizing their packaging strategies to ensure safe transit while maintaining cost-effectiveness. My expertise is grounded in the practical application of sustainable and economical packaging methods, aligning with environmental concerns and seller feedback on various platforms.
The conversation on the Mumsnet thread centers around packaging advice for items sold on Vinted, an online marketplace for second-hand fashion. Participants discuss different approaches to packaging items for shipment, weighing the balance between cost-effectiveness and ensuring safe delivery to buyers.
Here's a breakdown of the concepts discussed in the thread:
- Vinted: An online platform for buying and selling second-hand fashion items.
- Packaging Materials:
- Reuse of Packaging: Many sellers reuse packaging materials such as bags from supermarkets, shop orders, or boxes received from previous deliveries.
- Bag for Life: Using durable bags meant for multiple uses as a packaging option.
- Bubble Wrap: Some sellers opt to wrap fragile items in bubble wrap before packaging.
- Tissue Paper: Using tissue paper to wrap more delicate or expensive items.
- Parcel Paper: Another option for packaging items.
- Carrier Bags: Utilizing carrier bags for smaller items.
- Bin Liners: Strong bin liners are suggested for added protection.
- Avoiding Paper: Paper is generally avoided due to potential damage if it gets wet.
- Poly Bags: Using poly bags, especially those reused from internet shopping, for packaging.
- Document Enclosed Sticky Wallets: Mentioned as a tool for speedy packaging.
- Packaging Techniques:
- Layering: Folding excess bag layers or wrapping items twice for added protection in case of rips or tears during transit.
- Buyer Preferences: Some buyers prefer receiving items in reused packaging for environmental reasons.
These discussions emphasize the use of recycled and readily available packaging materials while balancing the need for adequate protection during shipping. The consensus leans towards reusing materials to minimize costs and environmental impact, with additional measures for protecting more delicate or expensive items.
