Wear yellow in Thailand?

I understand that yellow is associated with the royal family. For everyday tourists, is wearing yellow a good thing to do or bad?

Thais will like that you wear yellow, especially if you buy one of the "Long Live the King" shirts.

We were in Thailand for the King's 80th birthday, Dec. 5. Many, many Thais were wearing yellow polo shirts with the King's emblem for his birthday. Seems like they were wearing them for 2- 3 weeks in and around the King's birthday. Very colorful. The shirts can be found everywhere to buy.
Yellow is the King's color. Blue is the Queen's color.
Everywhere were "Long Live the King" signs; even on the outside of our hotel, on the top floor, letters about 6 feet high.
They LOVE their King! He has done so many good things for the people of Thailand.

Just as an aside, the colors relate to the day of the week on which you were born. I don't have my list with me now, but each of the seven days has its own color. Monday (King was born on a Monday) is Yellow. Not sure, but I think it might be Thursday that is blue for the Queen? I'll have to check in my travel journal so I can give you all 7 days of colors!!

FRIDAY is blue.
Tuesday is pink.
Wednesday morning is dark green.
Wednesday afternoon is light green.
Thursday is orange.
Saturday is purple.
Sunday is red.
There are different Buddha poses for each of these as well.

The reason Wednesday is split in half is supposedly because it's "unlucky" to be in the middle. Actually, I think it has more to do with eight being more symmetrical than seven. It's very hard to divide a circle or square into seven equal parts!

Michael you reminded me of something else when you talked about wednesday. My best friend Pak is the first in his family to be born here in the US, everyone else is from Thailand. He was over at my house yesterday for dinner and usually looks very well clean cut, but he had not shaved that day yet. I said what's up is your razor broke? His response was, no its not, its wednesday and I can't shave on wednesday! He always says his family is in the US now, but still holds all the thai susperstitions, and one of them is that you are not supposed to cut your hair or your fingernails on wednesday! There were all these other days of the week that he can't do things either. And he has to sleep facing north, and in the closet shoes can't be above the shirts!

Bob is not allowed near sharp objects any day of the week. You should see what he doesn't do on Saturday. This is not superstition, it's necessity.
