There are no silly questions when it comes to insurance! Especially when it comes to
home liability coverage
, which does get tricky at times. But yes, home insurance does cover broken glasses and other personal property big and small—however, this is usually only if there’s a direct link between the condition of the home and the incident leading to injury or property damage.
Liability coverage, be it in your
homeowner’s insurance

policy, protects you when someone sues you for damages that happened on your property or involving your car. It covers legal fees, as well as the damages themselves, up to the amount limited in your policy.
Homeowner’s liability coverage protects you if a tree on your property falls and causes damage, if your dog bites someone, or if someone falls and gets injured—or in this case, breaks their glasses—on your property.
We strongly recommend chatting with this individual and seeing if you can reach an agreement on who was at fault and how to proceed without involving claims or worse, litigation. If they refuse to accept culpability, it may be a better idea to pay for the glasses out of pocket than to file a claim and watch your insurance premiums go up as a result.
