Have you noticed a “dip” where your hip meets the top of your thigh? Hip dips are normal and a result of your bone structure, but they can make you feel self-conscious. You have many options for reducing the appearance of these hip dips, and Premier Vein & Body by Schwartz can help you choose the best one. Hip dips are a natural feature, and treatments will not actually get rid of them, but they can minimize their appearance.

What are Hip Dips?

Hip dips are a normal and common feature, but some people find them bothersome. You may feel like they interrupt the contours of your lower body or keep your clothes from fitting well. If you have hip dips, it means that your thigh bone meets your hip at a certain angle.

The muscles and other underlying structures are attached to these bones, so the angle of the thigh and hip can create an indentation. The shape of your hip and thigh bones cannot be changed, but if you are uncomfortable with your hip dips, we offer several options for decreasing their appearance.

How Do You Get Rid of Hip Dips?

No treatments will actually get rid of hip dips. However, treatment can dramatically reduce their appearance and give you smooth, symmetrical curves. The following list covers a range of available treatments. We recommend a consultation to determine which ones we offer and which are right for you.

Exercises

Hip dips are caused by bone structure, so exercise cannot change them. However, exercises that strengthen and enhance the muscles of the hips and buttocks may help reduce their appearance. A trainer can help you develop a safe workout routine.

Fillers

Dermal fillers can be used to add volume and minimize the appearance of hip dips. Fillers used for hip dips are often the same for adding volume to the cheeks or filling deep lines and wrinkles. Fillers are safe and widely used for aesthetic purposes.

Fat Transfer

Fat transfer is more technologically advanced than dermal fillers but results last much longer. BeautiFill™ fat transfer removes fat from a donor area and injects it into the hip dips. The fat cells will integrate and remain in place, adding natural-looking volume to soften your hip dips. These transferred fat cells can last the rest of your life, although they will change if your weight fluctuates. This is the most popular method for treating hip dips among our patients.

Implants

Hip implants may be used to fill hip dips. These implants are typically made of body-safe silicone. While implants are intended to be permanent, they may have to be removed due to side effects. They may not look as natural as other methods.

Body Contouring

Body contouring with truSculpt® iD can contour the area to reduce the appearance of hip dips. Smoothing the hips and thighs can create a smoother contour, making hip dips less noticeable. This treatment is non-invasive and safe for almost anyone.

What Results Will I See From Hip Dip Treatments?

All of these treatments make hip dips less noticeable, but none will eliminate them. However, you may notice that you feel more confident and that your clothes fit better.

The results of dermal fillers become visible immediately. Fat transfer results will fully develop over a few weeks, and the results of truSculpt® iD become visible after about three months. You will see improvements in the contour between your hips and thighs, giving you a more sculpted appearance.

How Long Do the Results of Hip Dip Treatments Last?

Dermal fillers offer a temporary treatment for hip dips. Their results can last up to two years, depending on the type of filler. Fat transfer results can last a lifetime, and so can the results from truSculpt® iD. While implants might last a lifetime, they may have issues such as moving out of place or developing scar tissue that may need to be removed. BeautiFill™ fat transfer offers one of the most natural-looking, long-lasting ways to soften the appearance of hip dips.

Is There Any Downtime with Hip Dip Treatments?

Injectable treatments like dermal fillers usually have no downtime. Non-invasive body contouring also requires no recovery time, but downtime from a fat transfer procedure may last a few days. All are highly effective ways to smooth your hip dips, but fat transfer is the preferred method for most of our patients.

Am I a Good Candidate for Hip Dip Treatments?

We have a treatment option for almost anyone concerned about hip dips. We offer several safe, well-established methods for treating this cosmetic issue. Good candidates understand that hip dips are an anatomical feature, and treatment can only soften them. Treatments such as fat transfer are effective, long-lasting, and safe for almost anyone.
