DISCOVER WINTER COATS

As winter approaches, we are all shuffling through our wardrobes, bringing back the coats that haven’t seen daylight over the past few months. There’s nothing like being cosied up in a coat whether we are running errands or sat by the window at a coffee shop, looking stylish as ever while enjoying a hot drink as the snow falls. Choosing the right coat that compliments your outfit while also adhering to its purpose of keeping you warm is probably the first thing you should think about when picking out a coat as the temperature drops.

In this blog post, we will highlight what coat is best worn at what temperature so you can find the perfect coat for the weather for where you live, a coat for day or night when the temperature drops a little, or for the time of year.

Spring & Autumn Coats

Light Weight Coats - Unlined

Contrary to popular belief, coats are not only popular in the winter time. A light weight coat is sometimes required in spring in mild temperatures to keep you comfy and autumn is the time you start preparing for the colder temperatures and are trying to figure out what kind of coat is going to keep you warm enough during the colder period without you feeling like you’re overheating.

The Collarless Coat

COLLARLESS COATS

The collarless coat is a modern coat that you can wear more casually. The coat is perfect for autumn and spring or if you have very mild winters where you live. It has less weight around the neck and can appear more exposed. The coat for this reason is also light weight. However, if the temperature does drop, it allows the possibility to pair the outfit with a scarf without feeling like there is too much going on to help keep you insulated.

The Peacoat

DISCOVER PEA COATS

For a generally mild temperature all year round, or as the temperature rises a little in the spring, I would usually reach for my pea coat. Made with coarse wool, the pea coat was formerly worn by sailors at sea to keep them warm on the decks. We have adapted this coat, to make it stylish and added features like a slightly lower neck than the sailors would have worn so you can see more of your outfit, which is fine when the temperature isn’t freezing. Peacoats are very much a spring coat as is quite open and quite often worn short.

Evening Coats in Spring and Autumn

Pea coats are great for the day but sometimes in spring and autumn, the temperature drops ever so slightly during the night time. You may choose during the later hours to switch to a different coat. If you’re going for a meal or popping round to friends for a party, I would recommend the long charcoal grey belted wool coat. Not only is the length, colour and style perfect for the occasion but is also practical. Darker colours tend to keep you warmer as they absorb more heat than lighter colours. On top of this, a longer coat is more material to keep you warm and the belt brings it closer to your body to help too.

Winter Coats

Wool Coats - Best Insulator

Wool coats in general are a great choice when picking a winter coat as they are water-resistant so can handle a little unexpected down pour. Wool is also one of the best insulator materials when it comes to coats, meaning an extra layer of wool over your outfit can really help keep you snug.

The Duffle Coat

DISCOVER DUFFLE COATS

If you are looking for a coat that can withstand colder temperatures, the duffle coat is a great choice. It’s a thick coat that you can button up to the top that was made to withstand very cold temperatures. The beauty of having a customizable coat, you can adhere to your needs. For example, the duffle coat, and a lot of our other coat that are made to keep you warm, comes with the option of whether you would like lining. The lining is an extra layer of comfort that is silky but its sole purpose is to add an extra layer of insulation to the coat.

Coat Layering

By customizing your coat, you can plan to make room for layers if the winters are severe where you are, or have it custom to fit perfectly over a tight-fitting outfit so you don’t lose shape even while wearing a coat. This means whatever coat you choose; you can adapt it to suit the weather or situation you would like to wear them in regard to temperature. You can also add lining to your coat. In this way you add another layer to your coat which keeps you warmer.

The Snowflake Sign

Some materials available for all the coats we have in store are also resistant to snow which is highlighted with a snowflake sign next to the material. These coats are extremely durable in harsh weather while also looking stylish.

Finding your perfect match when it comes to a coat this winter couldn’t be easier with all the options from pea coats to duffle coats, and from the choice between lining and no lining. You can find the exact fit and specification to suit you and just in time for the beginning of winter.
