This is from my own experience. You can shadow an expert who has experience and knowledge in the field. You can observe how they handle the various aspects of the development process, from finding and analyzing deals, and managing the properties' construction and operation. You can also ask them questions and get advice on how to start and succeed in the industry. Another way to learn about real estate development is to talk to a beginner who has been through this journey. You can learn from their challenges, mistakes, and achievements and get a realistic perspective on becoming a developer. By shadowing an expert and talking to a beginner, you can gain valuable insights and skills to help you understand real estate development basics.

You can go solo and learn the hard way, losing lots of money in the way and likely giving up, or you can use a mentor. It doesn't need to a professional mentor. I am not, for example. But talking to them, even investing with them, it's the ticket to save you thousands of hours of pain and hard learning. I'm not kidding. If you are serious about the business, finding a mentor is invaluable. Just do the math, a couple of average amateur errors in "easy" flips can cost you 20k USD each... And we all have been amateurs. Wouldn't you pay 10 or 15k to save you that pain?Real estate is about investing. Find a mentor in your area, or that you like what he does, or that's following the path you're aiming. You'll thank me later. Now your turn.

4 Gain hands-on experience
Learning about real estate development is not enough. You also need to gain hands-on experience by applying what you have learned to real-world scenarios. You can do this by participating in real estate development projects, either as an employee, a partner, a consultant, or an investor. You can also start your own real estate development project, but make sure you have done your research, prepared your plan, and secured your funding. By gaining hands-on experience, you can learn from your mistakes, improve your skills, and build your portfolio.

Speaking on the practical implementation of Development, unfortunately there is no substitute for experience. It is the hardest teacher and is often deeply unfair, which is what makes it such a great educator. Specifically though it is vital to understand both sides of the Development process, both Client / Employer, and Contractor. Moving up the chain, understanding how funders view risk and what they value is as important as delivering the correct product to market at the correct time and the right price. Remember, you don't need to be an expert in every field of the industry, but you do need people on the end of a phone who are. At management level you knowledge needs to be broad and shallow, let experts be experts and manage them.

If you're young, a possible path is internship, then employee of such company, carry the notebook of relevant people :), hear and learn from them. Ideally some schooling. If you are not so young and you need a faster track, then you need to pay for consultancy and trainings about the subject. Some basics to start with: learning to read an architectural plan, some urbanism knowledge, understanding generalities about valuation of a property, sales, building a buget, some basics in project management, profitability structures and investment calculations and the hardest: knowing the market and keep the pace in real time.
