What happens if a seller doesn't accept or decline a "return for fit/changed mind" request? (2024)

Couldn't seem to find this particular answer anywhere - if a buyer opens a return request for "fit/changed mind" and the seller has a no returns policy, I know that the seller can accept/refund and they can also decline and close the request. But what happens if the seller just doesn't respond at all?

I don't see any buttons for escalation - does it just automatically close by itself after a certain time, or does it stay open forever, or can the buyer actually escalate somehow? (this is not in reference to regular SNADs or INRs where the buyer can escalate).

If you let that date pass. Then the buyer will have the option to ask Ebay to step in. And if that happens, Ebay may not require the buyer to return the item to you, force you to refund in full, you will NOT get your FVFs back, you get a defect on your Dashboard and you are out the product. Sometimes however Ebay will have the buyer ship the item back before refunding and of course you will pay for return shipping.

Not responding to the request for return is about the single worse thing a seller can do. Not only does it tell the buyer you have no desire to work with them, it says that to Ebay as well. Which is why Ebay reacts in the way that it does if the buyer asks them to step in.

But why the heck are you even considering this. You have the option with a No Return policy to simply DECLINE the return request. If you don't want to take the return, why would you not do this. Why would you even consider opening up a whole to can or worms and the problem that would happen to health of your selling account as well as you financially.

FYI, a seller should not EVER ask Ebay to step in. In the current Simplified Return policy, Ebay will 99.9% of the time rule for the buyer.

But it just doesn't make any sense whatsoever why you would even be considering this when you can simply decline the return and be done with it. You are covered under the Ebay rules to do this.
