What is the Cheapest Type of Fabric?
The cheapest type of fabric is Polyesterdue to its massive production per year. However, prices may vary depending on the weight of the fabric, the country of production (e.g. China), as well as the shipping cost which is an important factor. The second cheapest fabric you can consider isCotton.

- Prices vary depending on the fabric. Let’s not forget that Polyester isn’t a fabric itself instead it’s the main material a specific fabric is constructed with. For instance, you can find polyester organza fabric for a price as low as $3-4 per yard but polyester fur may start from $13 dollars.
- Polyester is warm for winter, even if we’re talking about chiffon’s worst-case scenario. This is why there are so many knitting yarns with either a mix of polyester and wool or just plain polyester. However, this is a drawback when it comes to summer as polyester fabrics aren’t breathable, unlike cotton, and they trap body heat.
- Despite polyester being a famous fabric across the ready-to-wear market, it’s not sustainable and it has a negative impact on the planet as it’s not biodegradable and it releases dangerous substances into the environment. The same goes for nylon fabrics.

On a side note, cheap fabrics may be good for our budget but they are not necessarily good for the planet. A few companies have started using recycled plastic to produce garments but that only prolongs the problem instead of permanently solving it.
