Clothing Tips for Women

  • Avoid short tops, short skirts/shorts, tight or body revealing clothes and cover your shoulders or you will be looked at!
  • A skirt or loose-fitting trousers are good in the heat and will protect you from the sun.
  • You may want to pack a smarter outfit if eating out includes the more up-market restaurants in Gueliz, the modern city. Here you can get away with a lower neckline and shorter skirts.
  • Make sure you take comfy footwear for daytime and it's best to avoid heels – flat shoes will do just fine and go for shoes that are closed as the streets are often uneven and are not particularly clean.
  • A pashmina is a versatile piece that will dress up any outfit.

Clothing Tips for Men

  • You may want to pack a smarter outfit if eating out includes the more up-market restaurants in Gueliz.

Pack for the Weather

  • The spring (April and May) and autumn (September and October) are great times to visit with temperatures around 20 – 25C.
  • The winter months of November, December, January, February and March are mild but nonetheless cooler, especially in the evenings so pack a jacket or jumper. It is also wetter so it's a good idea to pack a raincoat and travel umbrella.
  • Summer – June, July and August – can be unbearably hot so lightweight natural fabrics will work best.
  • We love the Weather+ app – it gives an accurate 6 day forecast for day and night, which when you're planning from home is really helpful. You can keep all the places you've been to too – a nice way to remember your trip 🙂 Download for iPad/iPhone or Android

Other Things To Pack

  • Don’t drink or even brush your teeth in tap water. Consider taking a LifeStraw Filtration Water Bottle.
  • A lightweight day sack will come in handy to carry your sightseeing essentials.
  • If you plan on taking a taxi agree the fare in advance of the journey.
  • The souks are amongst the greatest attractions and are full of really great buys including spices, dates, nuts, leather, pottery, carpets and jewellery. Be prepared to haggle and haggle hard – it's the natural way, and be sure to pack your sense of humour too for when their enthusiasm for getting you to buy becomes just too much…
  • A must-see is the main square Jemaa el-Fna and it is well worth getting there as the sun goes down to see how the square changes. If you can get up high, maybe with a mint tea in one of the surroundings cafes, you will be rewarded with a fascinating spectacle.
  • And don't leave Marrakech without a trip to a local Hamman.
