Supermodel Heidi Klum arrived at the Vanity Fair Oscars party in Beverly Hills earlier this month in a daring cut-out dress with thigh-high slits.
The former Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue cover star strutted onto the red carpet with her husband Tom Kaulitz in tow, who looked dapper in an all-black ensemble. And it’s not the first time the pair have shown off their fashion prowess.
So what do we know about Klum’s third husband, who’s a guitarist for the band Tokio Hotel?
Tom Kaulitz is German like his wife, Heidi Klum
Klum and Kaulitz married in 2019 and are both of German descent. “He’s the kindest, sweetest, most caring, loving person,” the 50-year-old former Victoria’s Secret model was quoted telling Us Weekly in 2018.
“He is absolutely wonderful. He’s German, and we maybe understand each other in a different way,” she added about her 34-year-old partner.
He’s in a rock band with his identical twin brother
Tom is one of the founding members of German rock band Tokio Hotel with his identical twin brother Bill, who is lead vocalist, and two other bandmates. Tom is slightly older than his twin, reportedly born 10 minutes ahead.
Tom is a guitarist, keyboardist and singer-songwriter. The group won best new artist at the 2008 MTV VMAs, even beating out Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus that year. Founded in 2001, Kaulitz’s band broke into the US market with the release of their first English-language album Scream. Tokio Hotel continues to be active to this day.
He’s 16 years younger than Klum
Klum was born in 1973 and Kaulitz in 1989, meaning they have a 16-year age gap. Klum hasn’t shied away from talking about the age difference, however, telling InStyle in 2018 that the problem is how others seem to care more about it than she does.
“You have to just live a happy life without worrying too much about what people think, because worrying is only going to give you more wrinkles,” she told the magazine.
In a recent cover story for Glamour Germany, Klum once again addressed the negativity she receives because of her husband’s age.
“I think it’s often just spitefulness,” she said in the interview. “Perhaps many people also think I’ve had too much luck in life. I have a great job, I get to travel the world, I can buy expensive things. And now I’ve also got myself such a great man.”
He gets on with her children
Per People, when Kaulitz was preparing to propose to Klum, he made sure to involve her four children – Leni, Henry, Johan and Lou – and they did it by preparing breakfast in bed for the model. The spread reportedly included coffee, flowers and a ring box. Kaulitz popped the question on Christmas Eve morning in 2018.
“They went to Mexico before their engagement, around Thanksgiving, and that’s when he started talking to the kids about his plans in secret and it was so hard for them to not tell anyone,” a source told People. “They were so excited and happy for their mum.”
They secretly tied the knot in February, two months later, per People.
He gamely joins in with Klum’s OTT Halloween parties
In 2018, Kaulitz spent Halloween dressed as Shrek to complement his wife, who was dressed as Princess Fiona. The following year, when Klum went all-out as a freaky humanoid, Kaulitz stood by her side as an astronaut who seemed to have had a bloody experience in space.
