The Giorgio Armani show in Milan today was very pretty—sweet, with a good dose of high-quality, expensive-looking sparkles that looked magical and mesmerizing in the spotlights. Youthful hemlines showed lots of leg, and there were extremely wide belts and a flirty gypsy ruffle here and there. I particularly liked the sparkly strappy flats.
But every season at the Armani show, certain sections of the audience will applaud particular looks. I have never figured out who these people are. Toward the end of the show, when the grander looks exit, nearly half the audience might get up from their seats and clap. The American press remains firmly in their chairs, scribbling notes, unfazed. Unless one dress is especially sparkly or blatantly eye-catching, it's unclear to me what ignites the passion clap, especially when I often find that another look may have been the one that would inspire me to stand and applaud—if I did that sort of thing.
