Automotive Transportation

Due to cart limits at the facility, players will not be given individual automotive carts.

Players have the option to ride in an automotive cart, carry their own clubs, use a pushcart or the use of a caddy. In fairness to the entire field the Section will not take requests for individual carts.

Caddie Policy

Players are not required to have a caddie Caddies are not permitted to walk on the competition course putting greens on the day(s) of the competition except during the stipulated round when accompanying their player.

Caddies: While on the host facility property on the day(s) of competition, caddies may wear either long pants or tailored solid colored knee length shorts. Blue jeans, cutoffs, T-shirts or shirts with no collar shall not be worn. Smooth rubber sole shoes are required. Sandals, open toe shoes, and golf shoes with traditional metal or soft spikes are prohibited.

Conduct

While on host facility property during qualifying rounds; players and caddies shall conduct themselves in a professional manner. PGA TOUR reserves the right to remove a player from the qualifying competition for; non competitiveness; conduct unbecoming a professional by the player; conduct unbecoming a professional by the players’ caddie.

Distance Measuring Devices

Distance Measuring Devices are permitted during the Waste Management Phoenix Open Pre-Qualifier.

Dress Code

Players: While on the host facility property on the day(s) of competition, players shall present a neat appearance in both clothing and personal grooming. Players are permitted to wear golf shorts which are knee lenght, tailored and neat in appearance. Compression leggings worn underneath shorts must be solid in color.

Players and Caddies shall conform to the host facility’s appearance policies while onsite during any practice round.

Electronic Devices Policy

The Rules of Golf, Decision 14-3/16.

Use of Electronic Devices

As provided in the Etiquette Section, players should ensure that any electronic device taken onto the course does not distract other players.

The use of an electronic device such as a mobile phone, hand-held computer, calculator, television or radio is not of itself a breach of Rule 14-3. For example, the following uses of an electronic device during a stipulated round are not a breach of the Rules:

Using the device for matters unrelated to golf (e.g., to call home);
Using the device to access information on advice-related matters that was produced prior to the start of the player's round (e.g., an electronic yardage book, swing tips);
Using the device to access (but not interpret or process) playing information from previous rounds (e.g., driving distances, individual club yardages, etc.); or
Using the device to obtain information related to the competition being played (e.g., the leader board or projected "cut").

However, the following are examples of uses of an electronic device during a stipulated round that might assist the player in his play and therefore are in breach of Rule 14-3:

Using the device (e.g., a television or radio) to watch or listen to a broadcast of the competition being played;
Using the device to ask for or give advice in breach of Rule 8-1 (e.g., calling a swing coach);
Using the device to access information on advice-related matters that was not produced prior to the start of his round (e.g., analysis of strokes made during that round); or
Using the device to interpret or process any playing information obtained from current or previous rounds (e.g., driving distances, individual club yardages, etc.), or to assist in calculating the effective distance between two points (i.e., distance after considering elevation changes, wind speed and/or direction or other environmental factors).

Eligibility

Professionals and Amateurs with a handicap index when applied to the qualifying course slope will generate a handicap of two (2.0) or less.The Southwest Section PGA reserves the right to verify the handicap index of amateurs, remove a player who is considered to be non competitve as well as to refuse an entry.

Entry Fees

Pre-Qualifying for other Professionals and Amateurs / Players Seeking Amateur Status: $250.00

Successful Pre-Qualifying Professionals & Amateurs / Players Seeking Amateur Status must pay and additional: $250.00 for the Monday Qualifier.

Successful Pre-Qualifying members of PGA TOUR Canada, PGA TOUR Latinoamérica, and PGA TOUR China an additional: $100.00 for the Monday Qualifier.

Field Size

The Waste Management Phoenix Open Pre-Qualifier #6 is limited to78 participants.

Groove Specifications

Open Qualifying contestants MUST use equipment which conforms to the Condition of Competition for Groove Specifications as implemented in the PGA TOUR, Champions Tour and Web.com Tour Local Rules and Conditions of Competition (Hard Card). This condition shall NOT apply to Pre-Qualifying. The complete specifications for grooves in elite competitions along with a public database listing conformity of many clubs can be found at USGA.org (click on Equipment > Conforming Lists > Informational Club Database) or by contacting the USGA Equipment Standards Department at (908) 234-2300. Players should confirm that their equipment conforms to the new specifications well in advance of the competition and should be aware that conforming equipment must be used in Open Qualifying, even if a player is successful in pre-qualifying with non-conforming grooves.

If, before the competition, a player has doubt as to the conformity of a club, PGA Section officials will attempt to determine the status of the club(s), but play will not be delayed in doing so. There will be no on-site field testing for groove conformity at Open Qualifying. If the club(s) in question is not listed on the public databases listing conformity of clubs, the club shall not be used in the competition.

In the event that it is discovered that a player’s club(s) do not conform after the close of the competition, the provisions of Rule 34 of the Rules of Golf shall apply.

Pace of Play

The PGA TOUR Pace of Play Policy will be in effect for the Open Qualifier, except the fine structure shall not apply. Sections will be required, under the guidance of the PGA TOUR Tournament Official, to create a Pace of Play Time Chart.

Practice Rounds

Practice rounds and rates are at the availability and discretion of Lone Tree Golf Club. 480-219-0831

Qualifying Spots

It's projected the low 2scores and ties from each qualifier will advance to the Waste Management Phoenix Open Monday Qualifier. If a qualifying site or sites have significant fewer participants; a recalculation of those advancing will be updated using a formula from the PGA Tour.

Rules of Golf

Play shall be governed in accordance with the Rules of Golf of the United States Golf Association, as modified by the PGA TOUR Local Rules and Conditions of Competition card and supplemented by the Notice to Competitors. Questions or disputes (including equipment rulings) shall be settled by the on-site Rules Committee appointed by the PGA TOUR, whose decision shall be final.

Spike Policy

The use of traditional metal spikes is permitted during the Competition. Soft spikes may be required during practice rounds at the discretion of the host facilities.

Starting Times and Groupings

Starting times will be available on Tuesday,January 23rd. All starting times and groupings will be listed on www.southwestpga.com and emailed to all competitors once finalized.

Withdrawal Policy

Applicants must withdraw prior to the entry deadline to be eligible for an entry fee refund minus a $25.00 cancellation fee. Contestants who withdraw during the round may be subject to disciplinary action.

Per the PGA Tour withdrawals or cancellations after 5:00PM on Friday, January 28, 2022are NOT entiled a refund.
