Wynwood Miami: Things to Do for First-Time Visitors (2024)

The Wynwood Miami neighborhood is renowned for being one of the city’s most enigmatic districts and a terrific place to spend some time moseying around in Miami.

Located west of Miami Beach and minutes from downtown Miami’s clubs and glittering highrises, this former gritty warehouse district was once home to various car shops, wholesale garment shops, run-down factories, and other industrial establishments.

Today the Wynwood neighborhood has been transformed into the city’s focal point and cultural hub with a wide array of galleries, boutiques, trendy Wynwood restaurants, and quirky bars, not to mention one of the world’s most eclectic street art scenes.

Getting Around Wynwood, Miami

Known as one of Miami’s most Instagrammed destinations, traffic in and around the Wynwood neighborhood is almost always a nightmare. Navigating the tiny streets is not for the easily frustrated.

Frankly, the best way to see (and get around) Wynwood – especially if you’re there for the street art – is on foot.

We highly recommend getting to the area via a rideshare service such as Lyft to avoid the parking hassle, not to mention a safe way back home after hitting a few of the Wynwood breweries (more on those later).

Or do, like most Miamians, keep an eye out for the Pay-by-Phone street parking available throughout the neighborhood. Street parking is limited.

In general, the Pay-by-Phone app is a must-download when in Miami as it allows you to pay for parking, replenish, and extend parking times as needed on your mobile phone. Updates are sent via the app so you can relax and continue enjoying wherever you may be.

But be sure to find the location number and pay the parking fee before leaving your vehicle to avoid those pesky parking fines!

Planning Tip: Although the Wynwood neighborhood has turned around in the past decade, remnants of its rougher past still shine through from time to time, so keep all valuables out of sight, especially if parking on the street.
