Are Arket and COS the same?
If top-quality wardrobe staples are what you're after, then COS's sister brand, Arket, will fulfil your fashion dreams. It makes the best tees, tanks, jeans, trousers, jackets… Basically, every single pillar of a modern wardrobe can be found here.
The H&M group includes eight clearly defined brands – H&M, COS, Monki, Weekday, & Other Stories, Cheap Monday, H&M Home and ARKET.
H&M-owned brand Cos is launching its own resale business, a move that will allow customers to buy and sell used Cos clothing.
H&M may be struggling, but its more high-end sister brand, Cos, is thriving, according to the company. Short for Collection of Style, Cos is known for its high-quality, thoughtful, and timeless designs meant to "last beyond the season," according to its website.
Joining COS, & Other Stories, Weekday, Monki, Cheap Monday ARKET is basically a high-end version of H&M itself, and specializes in functional, premium men's and womenswear based off archival wardrobe staples.
This is what I learnt: COS should be your go-to for dramatic cuts and trend-led, colour-blocking separates. Arket, meanwhile, is great for layering pieces and luxe basics, such as tailored trousers and expensive-looking knitwear.
Though COS falls at a low price point, at its core are basics that are mostly seasonless. “I find the quality to be better than H&M and Zara and less trendy, which means you can rely on them for years to come,” _Vogue'_s Photo Research Editor Maureen Songco says.
COS is owned by Hennes & Mauritz. Its environment rating is 'it's a start'. It uses some eco-friendly materials including recycled materials. It has fast fashion traits such as on trend styles and regular new arrivals.
COS first opened on Regent Street, London in 2007, followed by the launch of the online store in 2011. The brand is available across Europe, Asia, North America, the Middle East and Australia, and offers reinvented classics and wardrobe essentials for women, men and children.
Like H&M, COS manufactures its clothes in Turkey and many other East Asian countries where human rights and labor law violations still happen every day.
Why is COS so popular?
Though COS has retail stores all around the world–from Europe to Asia to the United States and Middle East–it views its customers as sharing what it calls an international, “big-city” mindset. “It doesn't mean you have to live in a big city, but you enjoy the things you find there,” Andersson says.
The verdict is pretty clear here (at least in terms of denim jackets) – COS's pieces are well worth the money. When it came down to it, H&M fell short in many aspects. You don't expect to part ways with a sizeable amount of cash at H&M and when you actually do, you'd expect something better.

ARKET is a modern-day market offering essential products for men, women, children and the home. ARKET's mission is to democratise quality through widely accessible, well-made, durable products, designed to be used and loved for a long time.
Its labour rating is 'it's a start'. Almost none of its supply chain is certified by labour standards which ensure worker health and safety, living wages or other labour rights. It received a score of 61-70% in the 2021 Fashion Transparency Index.
About ARKET is a modern-day market and lifestyle destination offering essential products for men, women, children and the home, as well as a New Nordic vegetarian café.
When Scandinavian fashion brand, COS launched in London in 2007 it changed the landscape of the UK high-street. COS offers a distinctive design-led, minimalist style that felt modern, Scandi and very different from the rest of our British wardrobes. From the same stable as H&M, yet COS couldn't feel more different.
When it comes to Arket sizing, the brand's clothing fits true to size. Each is true to the label's democratic philosophy. Expect looseness. Jackets and coats are constructed for a looser fit while the simplicity of intricately imagined jumpers is conceived for both comfort and style.
It's so confident in its t-shirts that it guarantees they'll be the best you've ever worn! After capturing your customisations, the brand hand makes each tee in Sydney from certified sustainable fabrics like cotton, hemp, and Merino wool milled in Melbourne.
I find that COS sizing can run on the bigger side so be sure to try your size and the size below too. I got this in an XS. I love the length, and the open back detail on this. Absolutely perfect with trainers.
Is COS a designer brand?
Designers Karin Gustafsson and Martin Andersson talk about the rapid growth of the brand and the all-pervasive popularity of Scandinavian design. In a little under eight years, COS has become one of the fastest-growing fashion brands on the high street.
Is COS sustainable? If we were to base it on just the fact that it's part of the H&M Group, we can assume that COS is, at best, doing just okay in terms of sustainability. H&M has reportedly been accused of greenwashing for releasing a 'sustainable' collection while still working with a fast-fashion model.
Cos is a Swedish brand and part of H&M.
Massimo Dutti is a popular, Spanish fashion brand owned by Inditex, one of the world's largest fashion retailers, boasting eight distinct brands. All of these brands are huge on their own, yet Inditex only reports on sustainability as a mother company. Inditex is one of the pioneers of fast fashion as we know it today.
Here, Karin Gustafsson, the head of women's wear design at COS, shares her favorite New York destinations, recent purchases, and more. Define your style in three words: Understated. Timeless. Easy-going.
And, yet, they are just a sampling of the creative talent that Swedish apparel brand COS has pulled into its orbit. Marked by Scandinavian and Japanese influences, COS (“Collection Of Style”) is a seasonal, more mature alternative to parent company H&M's fast-fashion approach.
COS, which stands for Collection of Style, launched in 2007 as part of Swedish retail giant H&M with the aim to provide "design quality for an affordable price" to shoppers looking for high-fashion garments for high-street prices.

The Birth of Chinese Cheap Fashion
As the number of clothing factories increased, so is the quantity of unsold items. Slowly shops, and later villages, started to appear around the factories selling unmarked goods. Soon local shops extended their reach to an online presence as the internet became more accessible.
While H&M is struggling to fix its brand issues, its sister stores appear to be on a better track. Cos, short for Collection of Style, is known for its high-quality, thoughtful, and timeless designs meant to "last beyond the season," according to its website.
