Are things cheap in Japan?
Japan ranked 35 out of the 56 countries, standing at a lower rank than Sri Lanka (33rd) and Thailand (34th), and priced at about $0.50 cheaper than the average $3.93 cost per country. As we can see, Japan's Big Mac is surprisingly cheaper in comparison to other countries!
Most electronics are already cheaper in Japan once you look at exchange rates and the general cost, however as a foreign visitor you can get additional savings, thanks to the Japanese tax exemption on certain products for foreign visitors.
The electronics in Japan are not dirt cheap, however, if you compare the same item in North America it is cheaper. It's great for someone who wants cutting edge technology, but if you like the deals or sales, I found that japan doesn't have that much unless its an older model or outdated.
1. Re: Buying SONY Products? In general, there is no significant savings in buying comparable products in Japan vs the US. In addition, you may have warranty issues if you try to have an item purchased in Japan serviced in the US.
Sneakers
When you travel Japan, you may notice some of products are much cheaper than other countries. And sneakers are one of them.
Economists should not blame the Bank of Japan's monetary policies for the yen's declining purchasing power. It is flatlining productivity in tradable sectors and stagnant real wages that explain the arrival of Cheap Japan.

Despite the thousands of miles American co*ke has to travel, it is usually cheaper than Japanese-made co*ke, which typically sells for 120 yen ($1.14) in a 12-ounce can from vending machines.
