Smoking in Italy has been banned in public places including bars, restaurants, discotheques and offices since 2005. A majority of Italians supported the ban at the time it was first implemented, but there was a lack of support from smokers and some bar owners.
As a matter of fact, in Italy it is only forbidden to smoke inside public spaces: cinemas, restaurants, clubs.
The law prohibits smoking in most enclosed places, including indoor workplaces and indoor public places. However, the law allows designated smoking rooms if the designated smoking rooms comply with strict technical standards.

On the highways you will find cigarettes in the service areas at the rest stop. Otherwise you will find cigarettes in a few bars, which are also open late at night, or in the tobacconists – Tabaccheria.

It is forbidden to smoke in all public indoor spaces, including bars, cafés, restaurants and discos. However, special smoking rooms are allowed.. Your not allowed to smoke in a vehicle with a child or pregnant woman present.
