All personnel are required to wear black, cushion sole socks when wearing combat boots or organizationally issued footwear. Additionally, they can be worn as a two-sock system with the standard liner sock (also known as the black dress sock) to provide additional foot protection.
Yet the Army Regulation 670-1, aka the AR670-1, does prescribe that you wear specific types of socks. What are the rules? The AR670-1 regulation on socks mandates that socks are black, green, or tan with a cushioned sole. The socks should be stretchable and extend no further than the calves.
