Do Protestants take the Bible literally?
Protestants (including those who identify themselves as "Christian" but not Catholic or Mormon) are the most likely religious group to believe the Bible is literally true.
Perhaps not surprisingly, the researchers found that women were more likely than men to take the Bible literally. But more so than gender, researchers found that Biblical literalism is tied to a person's attachment to God.
Fundamentalists and evangelicals sometimes refer to themselves as literalists or biblical literalists. Sociologists also use the term in reference to conservative Christian beliefs which include not just literalism but also biblical inerrancy.
For Protestant Christians, Luther made clear that the Bible is the "Sola Skriptura," God's only book, in which He provided His revelations to the people and which allows them to enter in communion with Him. Catholics, on the other hand, do not base their beliefs on the Bible alone.
Some Protestants use Bibles which also include 14 additional books in a section known as the Apocrypha (though these are not considered canonical) bringing the total to 80 books. This is in contrast with the 73 books of the Catholic Bible, which includes seven deuterocanonical books as a part of the Old Testament.
On October 11–15, 2022, Meyer and six other Christians from all walks of life quoted the entire New Testament from memory at the ICR Discovery Center in Texas. This was the first time in recorded history that such an endeavor has been accomplished.
One in 10 has read none of it, while 13 percent have read a few sentences. Thirty percent say they have read several passages or stories. Americans also differ in how they approach reading the Bible.
Religious and political impact

What happens if we don't read the Bible?
Scripture increases all our holy capacities for the glory of Jesus. Without the nourishment of Scripture, we easily lose steam. We become spiritually winded and require more rest, more time away from the active pursuit of Jesus' earthly work. We will be slow and plodding, lacking energy and will.
