Kentucky Derby week is one of the best times to experience live racing at Churchill Downs.
You'll want to head to Churchill Downs first thing in the morning. Derby and Oaks contenders begin first around 7:30 AM, but you'll find horses warming up until 10am. You do not need a ticket – although if you're feeling fancy, you can purchase a ticket which includes breakfast at the track.
The first one begins at 10:30 a.m. and the final one starts at 7:00 p.m. The 11th race is the Kentucky Oaks, the main event, and has a 5:51 p.m. post time. Saturday's Derby Day features 14 races. The first starts at 10:30 a.m. and the last begins at 8:30 p.m.
