Both white rice and brown rice cereals showed improvement in meeting the 100 ppb level, but the improvement was greatest for white rice cereals, which tend to have lower levels of inorganic arsenic overall.
In June 2021, Beech-Nut Nutrition recalled a single lot of Beech-Nut Stage 1 Single Grain Rice Cereal. The recall occurred after a routine testing program in the State of Alaska found that the cereal contained levels of inorganic arsenic that exceeded FDA thresholds.
White basmati rice from California, India, and Pakistan, and sushi rice from the U.S. may have less arsenic than other types of rice. Vary your grains, especially if rice is a big part of your diet. Consider lower-arsenic grains such as amaranth, quinoa, bulgur and farro.
