Does Macy's Inc own Bloomingdale's?
Its sister chain Macy's is also experimenting with a burgeoning chain of smaller stores, something Macy's Inc CEO Jeff Gennette told investors in May was key to winning new and younger customers. (Bloomingdale's is owned by Macy's Inc but operated independently.)
In 1994, Federated took over the department store chain Macy's. With the acquisition of The May Department Stores Company in 2005, the regional nameplates were retired and replaced by the Macy's and Bloomingdale's brands nationwide by 2006. Ultimately, Federated itself was renamed Macy's, Inc. in 2007.
Bloomingdale's
1. Re: What is the difference between Macy's and Bloomingdale? They are owned by the same company, but they are really just different department stores. Bloomingdale is more high-end labels and thus more expensive.
Does Macy's Credit Cards work at Bloomingdale's? Similar to Macy's gift cards, Macy's credit cards are only acceptable for use at any Macy's Backstage store, or online at macys.com thus are not acceptable at any Bloomingdale's outlet be it online or at any store.
Even though they are owned by the same parent company, Macy's Inc., you can't use Macy's store gift cards at Bloomingdale's. Instead, you have to use your credit card or cash to make purchases. This is because Bloomingdale is a separate company from Macy's.
