Do all Swarovski crystals contain lead?
Yes. Swarovski crystal beads and components are leaded crystal. Swarovski contends that crystals used for jewelry purposes do not contain sufficient amounts of lead to be categorized as harmful to children.
Fortunately, you would not likely be exposed to the lead in decorative crystal products simply by wearing them. However, it's possible for lead exposure to occur when using them to store food or beverages (such as in a crystal decanter).

Properties of Crystal
It is generally accepted that 24% lead crystal is the optimum percentage of weight, durability, and clarity. Furthermore, the crystal can consist of up to 35% lead – the more lead, the more sparkle, and ping. The higher the lead content, the more difficult it is to form the crystal during blowing.
Some Swarovski crystal and Miyuki glass enamel finish products sold by Caravan Beads may contain chemicals known to the state of California to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm.
Though lead is a toxic substance, wearing the glass crystal jewelry that has a high concentration of lead is not, in fact, harmful to the body. The lead in the Swarovski crystal is what gives the Swarovski jewelry item the extra sparkle and brilliance. The lead oxide in Swarovski crystals is completely safe to wear.
Lead Crystal jewelry does not damage adults. Lead Oxide, used in producing Lead Crystal, is actually encapsulated in silica (melted sand) and relatively safe unless subjected to highly acidic conditions for extended times.
Like any glass, the composition of these beads can vary. Some glass beads have been found to contain toxic metals like lead and arsenic. This is a concern because the beads are typically pulverized during use and generate dust.
