How do you clean a ripstop?

Launder your ripstop nylon item in the washing machine, using cold water and the cycle recommended on the tag. If you have an item that will not fit into the washer, such as a kite or a suitcase, put the item into a bathtub with cold water or use the garden hose.
Wash in cold or warm water only. Washing your pants in cold or warm water — never hot — preserves the colors in your pants so they hold fast and don't bleed or fade. Wash on a gentle cycle unless you need a heavy–duty wash for heavy–duty dirt. If they're heavily soiled‚ pre–soak your tactical pants.
Ripstop nylon may be waterproof, water resistant, fire resistant, or have zero porosity (will not allow air or water through), and comes in light, medium and heavy weights. Textures range from a soft and silk-like material to a crisp or stiff fabric that sounds like a paper bag when moved.
Though nylon is stain resistant, you may not be able to remove all of the stain-causing substance. Even if you wipe and dab at the soiled area, the residue might leave a stain. Try making a mixture with either vinegar and water or lemon juice and club soda to remove stains.

Because of the synthetic makeup of the fabric, ripstop tends to shrink less - and sometimes not at all, depending on the cotton-to-polyester ratio of the fabric. As its name suggests, it is also a very durable fabric, highly resistant to tearing.
Nylon is not likely to shrink on its own since it is a synthetic fiber. However, if nylon fabric is blended with a natural fabric, especially cotton, then it has a greater chance of shrinking. You can shrink nylon blends by using the washer and dryer. Just be careful not to over-shrink it in the process.
Polyester is resistant to shrinkage but if you wash polyester with hot water or if you iron polyester with excessive heat iron, it can cause shrinkage as it is a man-made fabric that is made with polymer. Avoid soaking polyester fabrics for too long and drying in a hot dryer.
Regular Care for Nylon
Usually, nylon should be washed separately on a cold water setting for best results. However, always check your clothing tags for specific directions. You can use regular laundry detergents on nylon but never use chlorine bleach. Typically, you should drip dry your nylon items.

The acetic acid in distilled white vinegar is so mild that it will not harm washable fabrics. Yet it is strong enough to dissolve residues (alkalies) left by ingredients in soaps and detergents. Adding just 1/2 cup of vinegar to the final rinse will result in brighter, clearer colors.
Won't stain clothing
Vinegar doesn't usually stain clothes, but it is acidic, so you shouldn't pour it directly onto clothing without first diluting it. If you don't have a laundry detergent compartment in your washing machine, mix 1/2 cup of vinegar with a cup of water before pouring it onto your clothing.

If you want to stretch a nylon-spandex blend, try the following: Soak the clothing in water and put it on wet. Move around and do your regular activities as you allow the fabric to dry. Put weight on one part of the clothing and stretch the other.
Use The Right Detergent
You may notice that your nylon garments still stink even after they come out of the wash. If so, your detergent could be the culprit. Most regular detergents are made to treat cotton and are not as effective when washing synthetic fabrics like nylon.
Although shrinking clothing in the washing machine with warm water works best for denim, cotton, microfiber, or a knit t-shirt, nylon fabrics shrink little with wet cleaning.
Use lukewarm (not hot) water, and use your soft sponge or brush sparingly, so you don't harm any protective coatings on the pack. Hang the pack to dry in the shade or indoors, not in the direct sun (UV light can degrade the fabric).
Your parachute can be machine-washed in cold water on the gentle cycle. Wash the parachute separately, using only non-chlorine bleach. Tumble-dry on low.
Select the delicate cycle on the washing machine, and make sure the water temperature is cold and the spin is on low. Add the appropriate amount of Delicate Wash according to the machine and load size. Lay the item flat in its natural shape on a drying rack or hang to dry. Do not put it in the dryer!
Do not bleach. Line dry. Spot clean or machine wash cold on delicate cycle in a mesh laundry bag using mild, liquid Laundry Detergent. Line dry to avoid shrinkage, or tumble dry low in a mesh laundry bag and remove promptly.
