The elaborate interiors include stained glass, plasterwork, and carved ornaments in exotic woods. The Carson Mansion was owned by the descendents of William Carson until 1950, when it was sold to the Ingomar Club. The Mansion is privately owned and maintained and is not available for public entry.
Visitor Information. The Mansion is not open to the public. Tours of the Mansion are not given, but you can take a virtual tour online here.
The 18 room mansion was designed by the Newsom Brothers of San Francisco for lumber barron William Carson and built from 1884-1886.
These public rooms were finished in primavera wood that Carson had imported from Central America, as well as onyx mantels from Mexico, stained glass, ornate plaster ceilings, and carved cornices, brackets, and overmantels of Indian mahogany.
The Carson Mansion construction took about 2 years to complete. The Newsoms also designed the J. Milton Carson House, locally known as The Pink Lady, which William Carson built across the street in 1889 as a wedding gift for his son.
