How wide is too wide for a roman blind?
While there are not any official weight and size constraints, this is a point where much thought should be given. We therefore, recommend that the maximum size of a roman shade be 72” wide x 72” in length or a combination that equates to a similar square footage.

If the window has no architrave or frame, measure the width of the window opening. Add 100mm to your width measurement to allow 50mm of blind to sit each side of the window, providing optimal thermal insulation and light block.
Generally, our standardchain operated roller blinds can reach a maximum of 3450mm wide and our new Premium XL range of roller blinds can reach up to 4700mm wide, which for most people is plenty wide enough.
If you do want to fit a blind outside of the recess, make sure the blind is wider than the window so you can block out unwanted light. However, there will be times when you want to let as much light as possible into your space.
Measure the horizontal width of the area you wish to cover. We recommend letting your roman shade extend at least 1”-1.5” on each side of window to avoid light seepage. So whatever is the width of your window from frame to frame, add total of 2”-3” to that.
In summary, for Venetian, roller and vertical blinds, we would recommend they be hung from within the recess. However, Roman blinds would be better suited outside the recess, as they are able to let more light enter into the room.

Normally the maximum width of a wooden blind can be made to fit is around 242cm as any more and the weight of the blind will be too heavy to fully open or close the blind or actually fit safely to your window frame. Again we always advise that you speak to your blind manufacturer for their advice.
Measure both the width of the window and the height of the window. Consider adding an extra 3 inches to the width and height for optimum light control and privacy. Extending the blinds outside the window will also provide the space needed for the mounts and help the window appear larger than it actually is.
Inside mount blinds are often flush with the window's opening and do not cover up the trim. Outside mount window treatments can be mounted on the face of window trim or on the wall above the window. It does not mean the blind is installed outdoors.

Any size is available up to a maximum width of 250cm and maximum drop of 240cm. Minimum width is 25cm. If a blind requires more than one width of fabric, the blind will be made with a wider central panel and a smaller pattern matched panel at each side.
