Is being goth a phase?
Goth is not a phase, or just about how you look. Being goth is a passion and inclination towards everything dark and beautiful.
The term “gothic” generally refers to an attitude and a lifestyle among many of today's young people, but it manifests in a certain type of fashion and music that displays a dark attitude and outlook on life. Generally, the gothic attitude is one of sadness and depression, but this is not always the case.
“Goth isn't a scene you join; it's one you become part of and that's why you can't grow out of it,” he says. “It's not a fashion, it's what you are. Despite his nickname, the only thing he says ageing has affected is his dress sense.

Goths are more likely to be depressed, we're told in a recent study that was published in The Lancet Psychiatry. You'd be forgiven for a lack of surprise – the report seems to confirm a self-evident truth that popular culture has taken for granted. The image of the Goth teenager as a depressed loner is a pervasive one.
A study in The Lancet Psychiatry shows that if your child is a committed goth, they are three times more likely to self-harm than other teenagers. Goths come in various forms but the Oxford Dictionary definition is: “A member of a subculture favouring black clothing, white and black makep, and goth music.”
The Oxford English Dictionary defines a goth as "a performer or fan of [goth] music, or anyone who adopts a similar appearance, typically through the use of dark eye make-up and pale skin colouring, dark clothes, and bulky metallic jewellery".
"It's a relatively middle-class subculture, so despite … all the going out and being into the music, goths have always had a fairly positive view of people who are also achieving academically." It means goths may have better career options than an outsider might expect.
In truth, the reason why people are Goth is to show to the world that they are not in the world but are aware of their self-realization. The Goths are a group of people who are tired of being rejected, furious about being judged, and show their anger in ways that are peaceful and are friendly.
Is goth still a thing in 2022?
While some might argue that they never left, merely retreating into the shadows, the consensus for 2022 is that goth style is returning to mainstream culture with a vengeance.
Pastel Goth (not to be confused with Gurokawa or Nu-Goth) is a fashion that first emerged from groups on VK.com and later spread to Tumblr in the early 2010. It is a result of mixing goth or grunge with the sweet pastel elements of the kawaii aesthetic, but also a touch of bohemian chic.
Gothic fashion is a clothing style marked by dark, mysterious, antiquated, hom*ogenous, and often genderless features. It is worn by members of the Goth subculture. Dress, typical gothic fashion includes dyed black hair, exotic hairstyles, dark lipstick and dark clothing.
It's definitely age-appropriate for teenagers to try to find their identities, and one way they do that is to literally "try on" something different. Weingarten says that kids who try out Goth as a peer group may be artistic rather than athletic and use the clothing as a visual medium of expression.
You can wear white trousers and a white t-shirt with some cyber goggles and new-rock boots and be goth. A white blouse with a pin-stripe skirt and some high heels; etc. There isn't any kind of combination that you can't wear and at the same time be goth.
