Is COS worth the money?
The verdict is pretty clear here (at least in terms of denim jackets) – COS's pieces are well worth the money. When it came down to it, H&M fell short in many aspects. You don't expect to part ways with a sizeable amount of cash at H&M and when you actually do, you'd expect something better.
Overall, we've rated COS as 'It's A Start' based on our own research—you can read more in our post about what our 'It's A Start' rating really means. While there is some progress being made for people, the planet, and animals, there is still a way to go before COS can achieve a higher rating.
In short, COS is in the inconvenient position of a brand that is too expensive for the generalist masses but too current for the luxury clientele – its strength has become a weakness.
Their dresses and tops are generally generous. I'm a standard 10 in trousers and take the same size in COS. Tops and dresses usually XS. I'd say that stuff that is fitted to the waist comes up true to size.
While H&M is struggling to fix its brand issues, its sister stores appear to be on a better track. Cos, short for Collection of Style, is known for its high-quality, thoughtful, and timeless designs meant to "last beyond the season," according to its website.
The fabrics are always top-quality, and we still own COS items from the very first season when the brand debuted in the UK. Yep—its wares have stood the test of time and still look mint today.
The H&M group includes eight clearly defined brands – H&M, COS, Monki, Weekday, & Other Stories, Cheap Monday, H&M Home and ARKET. Together our brands offer customers a wealth of styles and trends in fashion, beauty, accessories and homewares – as well as experiences that now also include modern, healthy food.
Though COS has retail stores all around the world–from Europe to Asia to the United States and Middle East–it views its customers as sharing what it calls an international, “big-city” mindset. “It doesn't mean you have to live in a big city, but you enjoy the things you find there,” Andersson says.
COS is owned by Hennes & Mauritz. Its environment rating is 'it's a start'. It uses some eco-friendly materials including recycled materials. It has fast fashion traits such as on trend styles and regular new arrivals.
In COS's case, the garments in their store are set at a much higher price due to their exclusive market of designers and offer a lesser range of sales. Another reason being is also due to its fabrics that are ethically sourced, a testament to its high quality and feel of its garments as compared to others.
Should I size down in COS?
I find that COS sizing can run on the bigger side so be sure to try your size and the size below too. I got this in an XS. I love the length, and the open back detail on this. Absolutely perfect with trainers.
This is what I learnt: COS should be your go-to for dramatic cuts and trend-led, colour-blocking separates. Arket, meanwhile, is great for layering pieces and luxe basics, such as tailored trousers and expensive-looking knitwear.
Designers Karin Gustafsson and Martin Andersson talk about the rapid growth of the brand and the all-pervasive popularity of Scandinavian design. In a little under eight years, COS has become one of the fastest-growing fashion brands on the high street.

H&M-owned brand Cos is launching its own resale business, a move that will allow customers to buy and sell used Cos clothing.
Beyond a higher price point, where Cos differs from H&M is its focus on minimalist pieces that feel more high-end. The styles earned praise from the likes of Vogue and The New York Times when the store first landed in the US back in 2014.
And, yet, they are just a sampling of the creative talent that Swedish apparel brand COS has pulled into its orbit. Marked by Scandinavian and Japanese influences, COS (“Collection Of Style”) is a seasonal, more mature alternative to parent company H&M's fast-fashion approach.

Is COS sustainable? If we were to base it on just the fact that it's part of the H&M Group, we can assume that COS is, at best, doing just okay in terms of sustainability. H&M has reportedly been accused of greenwashing for releasing a 'sustainable' collection while still working with a fast-fashion model.
Massimo Dutti is a popular, Spanish fashion brand owned by Inditex, one of the world's largest fashion retailers, boasting eight distinct brands. All of these brands are huge on their own, yet Inditex only reports on sustainability as a mother company. Inditex is one of the pioneers of fast fashion as we know it today.
Like Zara and H&M, Uniqlo operates a fast fashion business model. In reality, this can never be environmentally friendly as manufacturing so many new garments creates huge amounts of waste every year.
UNIQLO. Japanese functional fashion brand, Uniqlo echoes COS' simple silhouettes in its design ethos. Known for their quality basics in high-tech fabrics (Heat Tec for winter and Airism for summer) – they're great for oversized cashmere jumpers, white shirts and androgynous chinos.

Do weekday sizes run small?
The leg length is also important to consider when shopping for Weekday jeans. Some styles will have a 28" inseam option, but most will start at 30". However, we have found that Weekday styles tend to fit a little shorter in the leg than other denim brands.
