Is Esme scamming Tommy?
Esme was simply lying when she told Tommy she had no blame for Ruby's death in season 6 episode 3. The revelation of Connie's death and the sapphire, in this case, is no more than another strand of Esme's curse in Peaky Blinders. According to her, Evadne can't be found and the sapphire is lost forever in a river.
In 4.02, Esme is seen devastated at John's death and visits the morgue to see his dead body. She curses his brothers as they leave the morgue and appears to take off John's rings before informing him that she will be taking her children on the road, " to live with decent people".
After their home was attacked by the Changretta crime family, Esme was devastated and blamed Tommy and his family, cursing them. Esme departed to “live with decent people" on the road. Tommy tracks her down after his daughter Ruby falls sick with tuberculosis and is convinced a curse has been placed on the family.
“Science is winning everything these days, even against the angels,” says Esme about a potential conventional cure for Ruby's condition. In terms of payment, she wants gold as in “uncertain times gold is always certain.” She's not wrong to be wary of banks, however, gold isn't quite as reliable as she thinks.
Bethany gave it to her sister Evadne, who in turn hung it around the neck of her daughter Connie. She began to cough, and died that night. Evadne duly laid a curse for when Tommy's own daughter turned seven, so he'd know how it felt.
The Shelbys are specifically of Irish-Romani descent, but they refer to themselves and other Romani with the blanket term “Gypsies” in the show. Tommy Shelby, the gang's leader, along with his siblings, Arthur, John, Ada, and Finn, have Irish-Romani heritage on both sides and consider themselves Gypsy.
Specifically, Campbell learns that his beloved Grace has fallen for his criminal rival, and Tommy learns that Grace had been working with Campbell the entire time.
Esmé Squalor, it seems, is only interested in the sugar bowl because it completes her tea set and was stolen from her by Beatrice Baudelaire and Lemony Snicket. However, in "The End" Kit reveals to the Baudelaires that the sugar bowl does actually contain something of value: sugar.
Cillian Murphy also said he married her for loyalty. By s4, she was not a prostitute but a secretary-cum- friend with benefits. She is low maintenance, he had no emotional hassle with her and basically did what was told. So its a marriage of convenience overall.
Tommy's seven-year-old daughter Ruby died of tuberculosis, after hearing voices, seeing visions and speaking the Romani words for the devil. Ruby died from a curse laid in retaliation for Tommy having passed on an already-cursed sapphire to the Barwell family.
What did Ruby say in Romani?
Read our spoiler-filled episode one review here. – The Romani gypsy words spoken by Ruby in her fevered state appear to be “Tikno mora o beng o beng”. In this English/Romani dictionary, 'tikno' means child or small, 'mora' or 'maura' means to slay or kill, and 'o beng' means 'the devil'.
The Man With Green Eyes and The Grey Man, despite a lot of speculation, are actually the same person- Dr Holford. He only appeared once or twice in the series beforehand, his most memorable scene was giving Tommy his diagnosis, so he largely flew under the radar.
Why Grace Shelby Dies In Peaky Blinders. While Grace dies in Peaky Blinders in a massively shocking way, it was the only way for the show to continue. Speaking to fans, creator Steven Knight stated that the creative reasoning behind Grace's death was simply that Tommy wasn't supposed to be happy (via Reddit).
Tommy Shelby's upbringing around Romani mysticism led him to believe that Ruby's illness is a curse, leading him to call Esme. Furthermore, he believes that her hearing voices and having visions is evidence of second sight—a gift that his Aunt Polly also shared.
Series 6
Esme reveals to Thomas that the teenage boy is his estranged firstborn son, who was conceived months before he went away to war.
Born Elizabeth Shelby, Polly was aunt to Peaky Blinders gang leader Tommy Shelby, his brothers Arthur, John and Finn, and their sister Ada Thorne. She kept the gang going while Tommy and Arthur were fighting in World War I and was a key member of their shell corporation, Shelby Company Limited.
Shelby is the mother of Thomas, Arthur Jr., John, Ada and Finn Shelby, and sister of Polly. Her husband was Arthur Snr. Shelby.
Meanwhile, John's newly widowed wife, Esme, decides to take her children and begin again elsewhere, cursing her late husband's dangerous family before leaving. Though the death of Esme's husband was sudden, it's understandable and realistic given the life-on-the-line nature of the Changretta plotline.
Thomas Shelby is surely a complex person but if there's one thing that is unquestionable is his love for Grace. Although treachery and time apart temporarily separated this couple, deep down, their love remained strong.
When she comes to London, she meets Thomas and they make love. She later reveals to him that not only is she still in love with him, but she's now carrying his child. In Series 3, the pair marry and are happy living in a beautiful country estate with their young son, Charles.
Does Tommy fall in love after Grace?
Series 4
Lizzie and Thomas continue to grow closer following Grace's death. Thomas takes Lizzie to the canal, revealing that he used to wait there for Greta prior to France, and that he hasn't been back there since, but wanted to go back with Lizzie. With this, he kisses her, and the two have sex by the canal.
After her plans for a cocktail party at the Hotel Denouement are canceled by Olaf (who decides to murder the guests instead), Esmé leaves his theater troupe and takes Carmelita. When the hotel is set on fire, Esmé is trapped on the second floor, where she and Carmelita presumably die.
The Baudelaires and Ishmael go back to the other side of the island, where the mutiny is already underway. Ishmael harpoons Olaf in the stomach, inadvertently shattering the helmet containing the Medusoid Mycelium, a deadly fungus, infecting the island's entire population.
But sleeping with Diana (and making business with the fascists in general) is just another "bad thing." In this case, the end doesn't justify the means: if Tommy keeps using morally corrupt methods to do good, he will be in a vicious circle forever, as he will have to keep doing good to make up for the bad.
In Peaky Blinders, Tommy Shelby and Polly Gray were seen half naked dressing each other up, presumably after sleeping together.
