In a roundabout way, the starting point for her fashion career — Ann Taylor — has come full circle. Talbots' parent company Sycamore Partners recently purchased the Ascena Retail Group Inc., which owns Ann Taylor, Loft, Lane Bryant and Lou & Grey, for $540 million.

LOFT Outlets carry a more youthful look and more casual styles, while the Ann Taylor Factory stores cater more to professionals. Both divisions sell suits, separates, dresses, shoes, and accessories designed for professional women. Also, there usually is a nice selection of petite sizes at both stores.

Acquired about 25 years later by General Mills, Talbots became a public company in 1993 and is now owned by Sycamore Partners, a private equity firm.

Is Loft fast fashion?
Loft is not quite in the fast-fashion category, although if you wait a few weeks, that $98 dress will be on sale, just as soon as a new dress gets shipped in; it operates on a highly promotional basis. It's inexpensive, but it's still not as cheap as a Forever 21 or H&M. It's not sexy and sharp like Zara.
The retailer later confirmed in a reply on Instagram that the decision was made "due to challenges brought on by COVID-19." "We've had to make some difficult decisions, which will affect our plus collection," LOFT stated.

Ann Taylor has a specific target market of affluent female buyers in the age group of 25-50 years, which justifies its small presence (in terms of stores) in the U.S.
Are Ann Taylor and LOFT sizes the same? In my experience, the Loft's clothing in general runs a little smaller than Ann Taylor's. I get the same size from both stores, but the Loft's fit is a little tighter on me than AT's. I tried on at AT recently and found the clothes to run smaller than Loft sizes.
