Is Target an ethical company?
Target has been recognized by the Ethisphere Institute as one of the World's Most Ethical Companies for 2010. For the fourth year in a row, the institute recognized Target for demonstrating an understanding that ethical practices are not only necessary, but can support a stronger and more solid business overall.
Target marketing strategies that are considered unethical would include lying, deception, manipulation, and threats. Sadly, these unethical ways of marketing are used against vulnerable populations.
Does Target have sustainable clothing? Target is making great strides to bring more sustainable clothing options to its stores. They have some items made from recycled materials, like recycled polyester, which is great progress, but their clothing lines don't quite qualify as fully sustainable.
The most ethical clothing brand is Patagonia. This company is one of the earliest flag carriers of environmental ethics in the industry best known for its Fair Trade outdoor clothing. It was one of the first to use recycled materials and organic cotton.

Target plans to make 100% of its private label products environmentally sustainable by designing items that are more durable, and eliminate waste and encourage reuse by 2040. The retailer also plans to have 100% of the plastic packaging for its brands recyclable, compostable or reusable by 2025.
Are Target clothes fair trade?
Both Madewell's and Target's denim lines hold the Fair Trade Factory Certified label from Fair Trade USA. Unfortunately, the label may not be as strong as customers think, partly because it only certifies the factory where the garments are sewn, not where cotton is grown, dyed, or woven.
Target offers eco-conscious products that range from reusable household storage products to sulfate-, dye-, and paraben-free beauty essentials, and even compost bins that do the dirty work for you.
Overall rating: It's a start
Its environment rating is 'good'. It uses some eco-friendly materials including recycled materials. It has set a science-based target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions generated from its own operations and supply chain and it is on track to meet its target.
