What apple is most similar to Honeycrisp?
A close relative of the Honeycrisp, this variety was created in Minnesota, and as their name implies, their flavor profile balances notes of sweetness and tanginess. An apple this crisp and delicious is best for snacking, as some of its delicate flavor could get lost when baked or cooked.
Fuji: Crisp, firm, juicy, and sweet. Eating a Fuji is like eating candy! Honeycrisp: Last but not least, Honeycrisp apples are great for snacking. They are sweet and tart so it will make a more interesting experience than eating just a sweet apple, like the Fuji.
Honeycrisp apples are sweeter than Gala apples. They are much juicier and contain a lot of flavors in their large cells. Even though they also have a slightly tart and acidic undertone, their overall flavor is sweeter than that of a Gala apple.
Honeycrisp. A sweeter apple than the Pink Lady, this is just a cool ride through autumnal tastes. It's a great apple to pick up at the farmer's market if you see it. It's an apple so smooth you feel like you can drink it.
Honeycrisp. If there was ever a perfect apple for snacking, this might be it. It's fragrant, sweet and tart. Plus, its shatteringly crisp texture works well when used as a topping on open-faced sandwiches.
Some of the best tasting apple varieties are Honeycrisp, Pink Lady, Fuji, Ambrosia, and Cox's Orange Pippin. These varieties are most flavorful when picked at peak ripeness and eaten within a few months of harvest.
#1 Gala. With its mild, sweet and juicy flesh, the Gala is currently the favorite American apple according to the U.S. Apple Association. Galas were introduced to the United States in the 1970s and are a cross between Kidd's Orange Red and Golden Delicious apples.
Honeycrisp apples retain their sweetness when cooked, which makes them ideal for crisps and pies. And because they're so crisp, they're perfect for slaws, salads and sandwiches when raw.

Why do Honeycrisp apples cost more?

Both varieties were more or less immune to browning—the Cosmic Crisp somewhat more so than the Honeycrisp. My wife found another use for an extra Cosmic Crisp that we had. Its flavor and crispness held up very well, even after two hours inside a duck.
Firm, crisp, and juicy, Fuji apples are among the most popular apples for eating fresh, but they're also great for baking, as they hold their shape when they cook.
Interestingly, sweet apples can also be acidic, but the sugar in the fruit overpowers tartness, resulting in a sweeter eating experience. If you think about the apples that you can find frequently at a grocery store, the top sweet apple is Fuji.
Granny Smith
They are incredibly sour—definitely the sourest of the apples we tasted—and are tough to eat without puckering up and squinting.
Avoid these: McIntosh, Gala, Fuji or Red Delicious. These apples are a little too soft or just don't have the right flavor punch for the long baking time pies and tarts require.
Fuji Qualities
The Fuji has a pink, speckled flush over a greenish-yellow background. It is a sweet, juicy apple with a crisp, dull white flesh, good for both eating and cooking.
