What are the different size Barbie dolls?
The iconic doll now comes in four different sizes: petite, tall, curvy, and original. You know the original size—it's the one that, if Barbie were a life-size human woman, would leave her with a 16-inch waist and an inability to walk on her own two feet.
A standard Barbie doll is 11.5in tall, equating to 5ft 9in at 1/6 'playscale'. Barbie's vital statistics have been estimated by Yale academics at 36in (bust), 18in (waist) and 33 in (hips).
Produced by the American toy maker Mattel, the 2016 line of Barbies comes in four body types: original, tall, petite, and curvy. The "curvy" doll is meant to reflect a more realistic idea body image for young people. The company's new campaign slogan is: "Imagination comes in all shapes and sizes.
Francie appeared to be only slightly younger than Barbie, and had a straight, streamlined figure. The Francie doll was the first to feature rooted eyelashes.
1997: Barbie's waist gets bigger
Mattel decided to give Barbie a more realistic figure in 1997, making her waist bigger and breasts smaller.
Like the first ever Barbie, Curvy Barbie is 11in (27.9cm) tall. Multiply by six and you find Barbie would be 5ft 6in. That's taller than the average UK woman at 5ft 3in and slightly more than the average US woman at just under 5ft 4in.
She is "curvy" Barbie, actually. But "curvy" is code for fat, though Mattel is too polite to say so. Mattel has added three new body types to its Barbie Fashionistas line: tall, curvy and petite (code for short!).
In 2016, Mattel released the “Fashionista” line of Barbie dolls, featuring, for the first time, a slightly more varied set of body shapes. One of the dolls in this set is described as “curvy,” suggesting Mattel might be responding to parents clamoring for more diverse and realistic Barbie bodies.
Though its initial response was slow, the company has since attempted to make reparations, debuting wave after wave of diversified dolls with its “Fashionista” line, first released in 2016. According to the company's website, the line now boasts 176 dolls with nine body types, 35 skin tones and 94 hairstyles.
Some stretchy dresses may fit, but most will be a bit shorter. Curvy Barbie has the measurements most different to Regular Barbie and will be able to share the fewest clothes. Some very stretchy dresses and skirts may fit.
What Barbie is smaller than Chelsea?
Kelly Roberts is the younger sister of Barbie, Skipper and Stacie and the older sister of Krissy. Kelly was introduced in 1995 and retired in 2010. She was replaced by Chelsea in 2011.
Over the years, her siblings for sale have included: Skipper, Stacie, Chelsea, Krissy, Kelly, Tutti, and Todd.

The Totally Hair Barbie was not only the most popular doll in the 1990s, but also the most popular Barbie ever, according to Mattel.
Twelve years ago (yes, it's been that long since 2010, yikes), Barbie released the Athena doll as part of the Goddess Series. Not only is this a Gold Label edition, but only 5,300 dolls were made, making this a rare collectible item.
Generally, hip measurements of 36 inches or less are considered skinny body types, whereas curvy ones have usually 37 or more (inches). Similarly, skinny women have bust measurements of 34 or less, but that may also be true some curvy body shapes (see below).
Ashley Graham is on fire this year. She was the first “plus size” model to ever grace the cover of Sports Illustrated, she premiered her own lingerie line at New York's fashion week, and she even celebrated her cellulite.
✓ If Barbie were an actual women, she would be 5'9” tall, have a 39” bust, an 18” waist, 33” hips and a size 3 shoe! ✓ Barbie calls this a “full figure” and likes her weight at 110 lbs. ✓ At 5'9” tall and weighing 110 lbs, Barbie would have a BMI of 16.24 and fit the weight criteria for anorexia.
Do NOT let that confuse you, Barbie is a 12″ doll, which DOES NOT WORK with 1:12 furniture. While some people (my parents) purchase 1:12 miniatures at flea markets for their kid's Barbie houses. These pieces are not the right scale.
