What causes shoulder divots?
Shoulder divots are caused when the width of the bicep area is not proportionate to the size of the armhole. Those with larger biceps may have this problem more often, as suit manufacturers typically do not cut with athletic people in mind.
When the shoulders/armholes of a suit or sport jacket are too tight, you get a divot on the arm towards the back of the sleeve head, known as bite. When the shoulders are too wide you end up with shoulder sag – the '90s Chicago banker look. You know what we mean.
The shoulder divot—an unfortunate sartorial situation that claimed The Weeknd, Jason Sudeikis, and Lee Byung-hun as victims tonight—is a horizontal indentation that happens when the armhole of a jacket isn't shaped appropriately for its wearer.
3. Fixing Shoulder Divots – MAYBE. 2) The armhole is considerably smaller than the sleeve opening that attaches to it. A tailor can try to fix these issues (around $90 per sleeve by the author's estimate) by removing the sleeve and rotating it to match your posture or by reducing the size of the sleeve.
When the shoulder of your suit jacket is too narrow, your bicep will push too much against the sleeve's fabric and cause a divot on the sleeve where the shoulder seam meets the sleeve. This can usually be solved by going a size up in the jacket to give yourself additional length across the shoulders and upper arms.
The shoulder pads of a suit's jacket should stop exactly where your shoulders do. If they go any further, the suit will look too big. If they stop before the end of your shoulders, the suit jacket will look and feel small.
Within reason, a master tailor can reduce shoulder width, to a degree, but with the sheer complexity of the job, it would likely be cheaper just to buy a new jacket. If you were happy to spend that kind of money on alterations, you'd have gone with bespoke or made-to-measure to begin with.
You want to be able to pinch around 1 inch of fabric on either side of your thigh. If it's less than that, your pants are too tight. If it's more, have your tailor slim the legs with a slight taper so that it gets narrower towards the ankle. This will look great on every body type/size.
Jacket length can really change the look and is important when it comes to a proper fit. For a man, the perfect fit, the back should cover your butt, ideally where the butt curves back in towards your thighs.
A natural shoulder generally does not have roped sleeve heads, and can have a varied amount of padding. A soft shoulder, on the other hand, has little padding. To some, a soft shoulder has no structure at all, neither padding nor canvas.
Do suit jackets have shoulder pads?
In men's styles, shoulder pads are often used in suits, jackets, and overcoats, usually sewn at the top of the shoulder and fastened between the lining and the outer fabric layer.
How much does it cost to get a suit tailored? It costs anywhere from $40-$400 for a suit to get tailored. This is a big range because it depends on how much tailoring is required and who you go to for tailoring. The local tailor will be a lot more affordable than a special, high-end tailor.
Bone spurs in the shoulder are also called osteophytes and one of their main causes is osteoarthritis or degenerative arthritis. Bone spurs can also occur as the result of tendonitis or as the result of inflammation to the cartilage or tendons in the shoulder due to injuries or other conditions.

- Supportive shoes or shoe inserts.
- Weight loss to decrease joint and bone stress.
Bone spurs (also known as “osteophytes”) formation on the joints is often a result of arthritis due to aging and one of the most common areas a bone spur develops is under the acromion of the shoulder. Also, those whose jobs or sports require repetitive overhead movement are at risk for this condition.
Pain in the affected joint. Pain or stiffness when you try to bend or move the affected joint. Weakness, numbness, or tingling in your arms or legs if the bone spur presses on nerves in your spine. Muscle spasms, cramps, or weakness.
