What colours should an Autumn wear?
Neither too bright nor too muted. Often a True Autumn will look like a 'typical' autumn, with reddish toned hair, light brown or green eyes and fair celtic skin that goes golden in summer. Your best colours are rust red, mustard yellow, medium olive green and mid-browns and camels.
Autumns can wear some bright colors such as orange, lime green, chartreuse and orange red. Mixture of color is the very key to richness of the Autumn look as is lots of texture in the fabrics. Avoid: Black, white, grays and pinks as well as any cool or blue-based color.
Metals & Accessories
Avoid bright and shiny metals and bling, as they will overwhelm the natural, subtle gentleness of your colouring and fade it into dullness. Since Soft Autumn is neutral-warm, silver, pewter, bronze, white gold, rose gold and soft yellow gold all work on you, as long as they are muted enough.
Autumn's version of white is rich cream. Autumns suit every shade of light brown, from tan and camel through to cognac and beige, and they can be incredibly useful neutrals, particularly for warmer weather.
Warm/True Autumn should avoid colours that are cool or neutral, bright colours as well as colours that are light in value such as: Black - too deep and too cool for Warm/True Autumn (If you are a Warm/True Autumn, your version of black is warm medium-dark gray or rich brown.) Sky Blue - cool, light and muted.
All Autumns should avoid black, pink, navy, gray, blue-reds and all colors with blue undertones. Be careful that your peach, periwinkle and lime green are not too pale.
Wearing black with Autumn colors is so easy!
Autumn is one of the deeper color palettes and although your colors are soft they are also quite intense and heavily SATURATED. Therefore, they are strong enough to provide a strong contrast against black and they can look absolutely STUNNING!
If your skin tone and hair have a warm undertone, or you are a natural red-head, you would be classed as either a Spring or an Autumn; if your skin has a blue-ish, cool undertone and your hair is more ashy and has no golden or red highlights, you are either a Summer or a Winter.
So Burgundy is Cool, Maroon is Warm
On the right, however, the rich, russet, chestnut tones of Maroon blend happily into the Warm colors of the Autumn season.
A Soft Autumn suit could be in your warm dark grey, navy, rosewood brown, deep khaki-brown, or hunter green.
Can an autumn wear pink?
At the warmest end of the Autumn palette lives the coral pinks - soft peachy shades that inch ever so close to being in the Spring palette but still carry that slightly more muted feel of Autumn colours.
As a Dark Autumn, you'll also look good in dark rust red, while Bright Spring doesn't have anything close to that. If you're a Bright Spring, you can wear a whole value range of fuchsias, from pretty deep to very light. (Dark Autumn has some coolish reds, but they're very dark -- more like wine.)
Hair Colors for the Autumn Type: Accentuate your hair color with warm red and copper tones. All warm brown tones like golden brown, coppery gold or chestnut are also flattering. If you really want to color you hair blonde you should go for golden blonde shades. Ash blonde colors do not suit the autumn-type skin.
Warm blondes are mainly found in Springs and Autumns. But there is often some natural warmth, usually in highlights, in Sunlit and Toasted Summers. Brunettes have a range of values, rom light brown to almost black. Some call light brunettes "dark blonde".
Any season can wear black, but some may find it is overwhelming. Black is likely to be much more harsh on soft autumn than some other seasons. Black definitely isn't your BEST color, and lighter shades of brown will be most suitable.
That depends on the undertone of your skin. If you have a cold undertone, you will look your best in silver and white gold. If you have a warm undertone, your best choice will be yellow gold. If your skin undertone is olive or neutral, you are lucky, you can equally look great in yellow gold, and white gold or silver.
gold jewelry skin tone, cool undertones often fare better with silver jewelry, whereas gold pieces look gorgeous with warm undertones. Gold jewelry may make someone with a cool undertone appear extremely pale and a little unhealthy, whereas silver jewelry on warm undertones can look a bit jarring.
Arabic, Fair African and dark African skin “Lucky you – any metal will look striking, although silver can get a bit lost on darker skin, especially in the form of fine jewellery. Gold really comes into its own though on darker skin tones.”
Autumn styling is usually associated with warm tone colours like oatmeal, burnt orange and burgundy. These colours lend themselves perfectly to warm toned metals, gold and rose gold.
