What does 10D nylon mean?
The D in nylon designations stands for “denier”. And Denier is the number of grams that 9000 meters of the fabric thread weigh. This means that the 10D nylon is woven from a thread that weighs 1.1g per 1000m in length.
Denier (D) is the unit measuring the weight and thickness of the individual threads used in the fabric. Fabric with a higher Denier will be thicker, stronger and more durable than the same fabric with a lower Denier – 40D Nylon will be stronger than 15D Nylon and 150D Polyester stronger than 75D Polyester.
SIMPLICITY - In true minimalist spirit, 100D ROBIC ® uses a basic square grid ripstop (no hex, diamonds, or thunderbolts...) combined with a super-strong high-tenacity ROBIC ® nylon 6 base. DESIGN - Matching fabrics of different weights/thicknesses can be next to impossible.
Nylon Taffeta is strong yet lightweight and very abrasion resistant. Our 70D Nylon Taffeta is also resistant to water and wind due to its durable water-repellent coating (DWR). The PVC backing on this fabric adds to its strength and durability.
190T means a total of 190 threads. A higher thread count represents a greater density and tighter weave in the fabric. For this reason you will often find lower Denier fabrics (with a 'thinner' thread) have a higher thread count.
Well, the “d” stands for denier. A denier is a unit of measurement that expresses fiber thickness of individual threads or filaments in fabric or textiles. This is done by using a single strand of silk as a reference for one denier where 9000m of the strand would equal one gram.
Generally speaking, the higher the denier count, the more durable the material will be. This is due to the thicker threads used to make up the material. So, if you're looking for something that is durable and can withstand outdoor wear and tear, you want to go with the highest denier material possible.
The difference between 600D and 1000D nylon is the thickness of the fabric. 1000D nylon is almost twice as thick as 600D nylon and will therefore be stronger, more waterproof, and more durable.
3.7 oz/sqyd 100D ROBIC®
ROBIC® nylon has very high tensile strength for its weight. The material features a fully waterproof polyurethane coating. The exterior is treated with a C6 durable water repellent.
1000D Nylon is created using high tenacity nylon yarn. 1000D Nylon is extremely tough with excellent resistance to fading, abrasion, rot, and mildew. This fabric is water resistant and dries quickly due to its DWR coating.
What is the difference between 210D and 600D?
When comparing deniers of the same material, denier can be a good measure of strength and durability. For example, 600D polyester is stronger than 210D polyester. However, you cannot compare deniers across different materials. Nylon is actually more dense (stronger) than polyester.
when you see a backpack that is 450D nylon or 900D polyester, that means that 9,000 meters of one strand of that fabric weighs 450 grams and 900 grams respectively. The higher the denier, the stronger the fabric (in general, but only intra-material).
What the material is made of important too. Nylon is stronger than polyester, for example, and so a 420D ripstop nylon is stronger than 600D polyester.
210D is better for lightweight tents, because 210D polyester is lighter compared to 190T polyester without being too fragile, however, if you need a sturdier tent 190T is the better choice. It is the classical weight vs.

This micro ripstop nylon offers a higher durability and water resistance than the other fabric options, but with a bit of a weight penalty. It's also less breathable than the lighter options. Keep in mind that durability should be understood in terms of ultralight materials.
The lightweight 70D Nylon is waterproof with a PU coating so having a few yards around for emergencies is a good idea.
20D nylon can be made quite durable using the ripstop technique and very waterproof with the right coatings (3000-4000mm).
200D Nylon is a lightweight strong fabric with little stretch. 200D Nylon has very high tear strength, is strong and versatile. Our 200D Nylon is perfect for linings of military ballistic vests and tactical vests. It is also great at being wind repellent making it perfect for windbreakers.
Higher denier = higher durability – at the lower end of the denier scale, an extra 5 or 10 denier can make a huge difference in how durable the hosiery is. If you're buying a pair of tights or stockings that are going to see frequent wear, I wouldn't personally recommend going below 20 denier.
Which is thicker 10 or 15 denier?
The higher the denier, the thicker the fabric. Deniers lower than 20 are referred to as sheer tights, which are made of fine threads and offer light leg coverage.
100 denier is the heaviest in most brands. Thicker tights are very hard to find and you can still get 110 denier in Primark.
300D polyester is half of denier with 600D,it is light-weight fabric,so it is more soft, you can see the surface like as below picture.
At 1680D, nylon is extremely strong, tear resistance and long lasting. This is the level of quality one should look for in a nylon bag. In general, nylon is a stronger material compared to polyester. At the same denier count, e.g 600D nylon versus 600D polyester, nylon is generally 1.4 times stronger.
Denier: This term reflects the thickness and affects how durable and thick the fabric is. The higher the number the thicker, and more heavier duty. Our Southern Storm boat covers are a 600D, you will see a lot of 300d, even 150d covers, which are proportionally half as thick and 1/4 as thick as our covers.
Nylon is made with strength in mind and with a thickness of 4.4. grams per kilometer, 420D nylon is among the strongest nylon types used for clothing and backpacks.
