These are the toughest and warmest pieces of Carhartt outerwear that I have worn. They combine a tough Cordura Duck Nylon outer fabric with the quilted-arctic insulation (which is the warmest insulation Carhartt offers).

Carhartt is best known as one of the most durable clothing companies on the market, which is all thanks to its Rugged Flex stretch technology. Although the outer material may feel rough or rugged to the touch, it can bend with ease and makes its products more comfortable to wear.
They started by selling Carhartt's authentic workwear. In 1994, they were granted a license to create their own lines of clothing under the name Carhartt Work In Progress (WIP). WIP is the streetwear version of the Carhartt brand, often marketed as comparable to Stüssy or Supreme.

And the fashion world's obsession with Carhartt is hardly new. SPY named the classic Carhartt beanie the winter hat of the year — back in 2020. In 2022, the Carhartt fashion trend shows no signs of stopping, and it's the rare type of clothing brand that really can be worn by everyone.
This Carhartt classic is both rugged and comfortable, thanks to the combination of water-repellent, wind-resistant rugged cotton duck and a quilted-flannel lining. It is a good heavyweight, outdoor jacket for work or just for bearing the coldest of winter days.
For those who work (or used to work) blue-collar jobs, Carhartt is an actual functional part of their wardrobe. Its durable canvas fabric is designed to keep workers warm, and those who don it as a part of their work uniform are often doing hard physical labor while exposed to the elements.
Some Carhartt tags have a date code on them in the form of 3 or 4 digits. The last 2 represent the year and the first one or two represents the month. Checkout the examples below. The 598 at the bottom left of the first tag shows that the this item was made in 05/1998.
However, over the past several decades, the brand has become “cool,” first becoming beloved by hip-hop artists and skateboarders in the 1980s and 1990s. In 1989, the spinoff brand Carhartt Work in Progress was launched to appeal to this more artsy, less handy clientele.

That being said, the far majority of Carhartt's clothing is not made in the USA. On Carhartt's website, they state, "Today, less than 2% of the apparel purchased in the U.S. is made in the U.S." and go on to assure that Carhartt is a part of that 2% but are outpacing that percentage.
