Finally seeing a doctor, she is given a preliminary diagnosis of menopause. In the emotional upheaval that follows, Fritz proposes marriage. The following episode reveals that she actually suffers from Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, so she undergoes more tests to ensure that it is not cancer.
We learned that Brenda has a treatable condition, though the idea of "ovarian drilling" did send Brenda into some understandable shock. With Brenda's "mystery illness" now revealed, and the effects of her early-onset menopause reversible, the storyline seems to be becoming a bit of a moot point.
Stroh made a comment about her recently deceased mother, and Brenda attacked him in the elevator. That, however, gave her the DNA evidence she needed from him to try and force a confession. Everything she was doing skirted or outright broke the law, leading to her ultimately getting removed from duty.
But I have to say I'm disappointed (though my feelings are mixed) that Brenda didn't get pregnant in this last episode. The transition from death to life, as she loses her mother & her career, would have been perfect.
In the end of The Closer, due to her efforts to capture Phillip Stroh leading her to assault him, Brenda, knowing she will lose her job, leaves the LAPD and gets a new job as Chief at the District Attorney's Office's Bureau of Investigation. While its more administrative, she can still work in the field sometimes.
He also now hides a heart attack from his wife and his need for a pacemaker. Dialogue in later episodes shows that the two remain married and suggests that Brenda remained in Los Angeles with Fritz.

What happened to Brenda's mother on The Closer?

Thomas "Tommy" Delk is the Chief of the LAPD during The Closer, Season 6. Chief Delk died of a sudden brain aneurysm after only 10 months in office in the Season 7 premiere, “Unknown Trouble”. After Delk's appointment as the Chief, he planned on restructuring the department.
