What is the average GPA at Harvard?
You can estimate the Harvard requirements by looking at the school's current students' average GPA. Most students admitted to Harvard have an unweighted GPA of 4.18 or above, so you'll need to have at least a 4.2 to be seriously evaluated.
Harvard admissions officers will calculate based on your high school transcript, which you'll submit with your overall application. Last year, the reported average GPA of an admitted high school student at Harvard was a 4.04 out of 4.0, what we call a “weighted” GPA.

If your school has a weighted GPA scale, you may even be able to increase it by taking more difficult classes. A 3.9 GPA puts you in a good position with respect to college admissions - all but the most selective schools should be relatively safe bets for you.

An unweighted high school GPA of 3.8 means a students earned mostly A's or A-minus's in their classes. A 3.8 is an excellent good grade point average! If you have a 3.8 GPA, you got better grades in high school than most students.
An F letter grade translates to zero grade points on the GPA scale. Thus, an F would significantly decrease your overall GPA because it contributes course credits to the GPA calculation without any grade points—the more weighted the class, the higher the drop in GPA.
