What is the difference between ripstop and twill?
Ripstop is lighter and more breathable, along with it's name feature, ripstop. Ripstop does a great job at containing rip. It fades quicker though and does not not keep warm in the fall (invest in a jacket if you don't have one and YMMV). Twill is heavier, retaining heat better.
60% Cotton / 40% Polyester Twill
The 60/40 cotton/poly twill is slightly heavier than its ripstop counterpart, retains heat more and holds color longer. If ripped, the twill will not prevent the rip from growing as ripstop weaves do.
Ripstop is ideal for tactical use—especially in situations where a tear develops while the wearer has no way to change clothes. It is also a great choice for backpacks, sports clothing, and some kinds of luggage. Ripstop is a strong durable fabric that is surprisingly light in weight and smooth.
Introduction. Frequently, you'll encounter the word “ripstop” as you browse tactical items, be they made from nylon-cotton blends (NyCo) or polyester-cotton (PolyCo) fabric. Ripstop is the name of a textile fibre weave technique. Most people assume that this weave has something to do with stopping rips from occurring.
A twill weave has a distinctive pattern of diagonal lines made with raised ridges of thread. Twill fabric can contain many different kinds of material, including cotton, polyester, or wool. Some of the most popular types of twill fabric are denim, khaki, and tweed.
What is this? Ripstop fabric is often designed to be moisture wicking, meaning it will pull sweat away from your body and disperse it to the outside of the garment so it dries quickly. This triggers evaporation, which can naturally help pull some heat away from your body. Ripstop is a great summer fabric.
Because of the synthetic makeup of the fabric, ripstop tends to shrink less - and sometimes not at all, depending on the cotton-to-polyester ratio of the fabric. As its name suggests, it is also a very durable fabric, highly resistant to tearing.
Ripstop nylon may be waterproof, water resistant, fire resistant, or have zero porosity (will not allow air or water through), and comes in light, medium and heavy weights. Textures range from a soft and silk-like material to a crisp or stiff fabric that sounds like a paper bag when moved.
Definition of ripstop

As its name suggests, rip stop nylon is a type of fabric that is incredibly resistant to rips and tears. In fact, rip style nylon is designed to prevent small rips and tears from spreading and completely destroying the entire piece of fabric.
