Where do Gen Z like to hang out?
Social media platforms, video games, and social media groups are the top places that young people are finding community overall—but Gen Z and Millennials' top responses are not the same.
Meanwhile, Gen Z and Millennials spend more leisure time on games than any other pastime, including TV, movies, and even listening to music. Different generations' playing engagement trickles into spending—as it often does, with younger generations being even likelier to spend on the pastime.
According to a 2021 Consumer Culture Report by 5WPR, Gen Z is prioritizing electronics and technology along with health and wellness. Conversely, Millennials and those from older generations prioritize travel and experiences, home goods, and furniture.
Listening to music is the top activity Gen Z and Millennials do in their free time. Gen Z is much more likely to than Millennials to watch videos on YouTube and social media platforms. Gen Z is also more likely to play video games in their free time compared to Millennials.
The social networks with the most monthly Gen Z users are Snapchat (42.0 million), TikTok (37.3 million), and Instagram (33.3 million). These remain the most popular among Gen Z over the next four years, according to our estimates.
Twenty six percent of Gen Zers in the survey cited playing video games as their favorite entertainment activity, compared to 14% for listening to music, 12% for browsing the internet and 11% for engaging on social media. Only 10% said they would rather watch a movie or TV show at home.
Art and Music / Playing an instrument are top hobbies for Gen Z and Millennials that are included in both their top five rankings. Both are obviously creative hobbies, and our New Content Creators trend research found that the majority say creativity is an important equality.
Provide clear career paths, mentorship programs, and training to help attract Gen Z to your company. These programs can prove to Gen Z candidates that you value them for the long-term potential they bring to your company, not just for their ability to fill an entry-level role.
The present state of happiness among Gen-Z. Gen-Z is driven by their passionate desire for a better world. While they pursue happiness through new, tech-mediated experiences and social networks, the things that reflect their present state of happiness have little to do with technology.
Social media is a huge trend for this generation. Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok are, by far, the most frequently used platforms. One-quarter of Gen Zers spend five hours or more per day on TikTok. TikTok continues to soar in popularity among members of Generation Z (99x+ in 5 years).
What percentage of Gen Z is depressed?
More than nine in 10 Gen Z adults (91 percent) said they have experienced at least one physical or emotional symptom because of stress, such as feeling depressed or sad (58 percent) or lacking interest, motivation or energy (55 percent).
A global Vice Media Group study from September 2020, Love After Lockdown, made up of 45% Gen Z respondents, showed 75% were currently single and not dating during the pandemic. Many reported this was in part because they wanted to take the solitary time to get to know themselves better before pursuing a partnership.

Snapchat, TikTok, and Instagram will be the most popular social networks among Gen Z this year, but their user bases are growing at different rates. TikTok, which burst on the US scene in 2018, already has more Gen Z users than Instagram and is closing the gap with Snapchat.
More than any previous generation, Gen Z is focused on commitment to societal change. They want to be good global citizens and want the companies they work for — and the brands they support — to commit to that change as well.

The research conducted by Kaspersky Lab and research firm Censuswide, showed that there is an anxiety epidemic – with 87% of Gen Z-ers feeling anxious about something, and with the majority of them not seeking help for it.

What do Gen Z consumers want?
Gen Z consumers are more likely to buy sustainable, high-quality, products. 73% of Generation Z consumers are willing to pay 10% more for sustainable products, according to a report from First Insight. They value personalised products and are often drawn to brands that share their point of view on political issues.

But what if Gen Z is lonelier today not simply because of how much time they spend on social media, or because they're single.
While Millennials (ages 18 to 33) and Gen Xers (ages 34 to 47) report the highest average stress levels, Boomers (48 to 66) and Matures (67 years and older) join them in reporting levels that are higher than they consider healthy. Stress has also increased for a considerable number of Americans, regardless of age.
Millennials on Track to be Most Obese Generation in History. According to Cancer Research UK, more than 7 in 10 millennials (those born between 1981 and 1996) will be obese by the time they reach middle age, making them one of the heaviest generations in history.

The youth become nostalgic when the economy is struggling, seeking comfort and connection. It's why Gen Z is reviving indie sleaze, old-money prep, and Y2K trends of the '90s and early 2000s. Instead of turning to their own childhood memories, they're seeking simpler pre-social-media times.
Generation Z is the generation that never had to deal with dial-up internet or brick-shaped mobile phones. What do Gen Z call their friends?
1. Fam. Fam is a shorter word for family, but don't be fooled– it can be used to describe your friends or the way Millennials use "bro".
Sofia, 18, points out that younger Gen Zers tend to use “sheesh” as a more serious attempt at humor or flirting, while older Gen Zers frequently use it in more mocking, lighthearted contexts. “When I hear guys use it in public, it usually has to do with a girl,” Sofia tells Bustle.
In the 2020 GlobalWebIndex survey, Gen Z stated that they used TikTok “to find funny/entertaining content” – and that desire for fun is meaningful. 72% of Gen Zers said coronavirus memes made them feel “capable of getting through” the pandemic.

Gen Ys usually seek positions in which they can have a solid work-life balance . They prefer jobs that allow them to spend more time with their family and/or pursue personal goals. In some cases, they may prefer a job with more flexible hours over one that offers higher pay.
Gen Z is also the smartest and best educated generation. Having an unlimited wealth of information at our disposal has not gone to waste. In America, 57 percent of Gen Z is reported to have enrolled in a two-year or four-year college, compared to 52 percent of Millenials and 43 percent of Gen X.
Gen Z is very concerned about their ability to communicate and forge strong interpersonal relationships. This may be due to the fact that technology has negatively impacted their cognitive skill development, and they recognize that their social skills, like critical thinking and communication, are weak.

Is Gen Z introverted?
When this audience were asked to describe themselves, the three key words used were: introvert, fast learner and driven. And it's a surprising finding that UK Gen Zers are three times more likely to describe themselves as introverts than extroverts.
