Who said fashion is art and you are the canvas?
In almost three years, Michelle Burtch and Shelby Pletcher opened the Canvas Fashion Gallery in St. Petersburg to spread their love of fashion with all women. "Modesty is art and you are the canvas," is the inspiring quote that inspired this concept.
Throughout his career, Warhol had a strong connection to fashion: as a young man in the 50s, he created illustrations for Vogue and Harper's Bazaar. Why is art important for fashion?
Fashion has its deep roots set in self expressionism, a means to show the world our personality by way of body adornment and clothing. Art as well tends to articulate the thoughts of the artist across to the spectator, by the colours that have been used to the mood that the artwork brings about.

By placing Marilyn Monroe's portraits in the diptych, Warhol was commenting on the saint-like nature that fans assign celebrities, which in turn causes the public to approach celebrities with some sense of holiness and immortality.
Warhol went on to become an illustrator for Glamour magazine, which placed him as a leading figure in the 1950s Pop Art movement. His aesthetic was a unique convergence of fine art mediums such as photography and drawing with highly commercialized components revolving around household brand and celebrity names.
