Queenpins is based on a real-life coupon scam orchestrated by three women in Arizona: Robin Ramirez, Marilyn Johnson, and Amiko “Amy” Fountain. Ramirez, who was 40 years old at the time of her arrest, was considered the ringleader of the group.
(WKRC) — A woman was sentenced to more than 12 years in prison and ordered to pay $31.8 million in restitution after being convicted of running a counterfeit coupon ring in Virginia. Lori Ann Talens, 41, was ordered to pay the money to the retailers and manufacturers who suffered losses in her coupon scheme.
While the duo sold guns to a Phoenix militia, Simon and Ken arrived in Phoenix. They followed the clues and arrested Connie and JoJo.
“Queenpins” has arrived in theaters and on Paramount+, telling the story of the country's largest counterfeit coupon scam. Indeed, the movie is inspired by a true story, but just how closely does the film follow the events and people it's based on?

All three women were arrested and charged with forgery, fraud and counterfeiting. Ramirez, the ringleader, was the only one sentenced to prison time – two years – while her counterparts got probation.
41-year-old Robin Ramirez, who was set to stand trial for operating a multi-million dollar counterfeit coupon ring in Phoenix, has changed her pleas to guilty, on charges of counterfeiting, fraud and illegal control of an enterprise. One additional charge of forgery has been dropped.
